A deal Uber signed with Airbus to supply helicopters for a transportation test project will make it quite easy to get a helicopter ride [if you can afford it, that is].

I doubt though that helicopter rides will be cheap enough for the average Joe.

It sounds fun, but realistically this can only work in areas where there are helicopter landing pads. Maybe for businesses it would work, but I can't see it as a justifiable expense.

I like the idea but in reality I reckon the scheme will be very short lived. One, if it's expensive then not many people are going to use it which as far as I know kind of defeats the object of Uber in the first place, and also there are not really that many places to land a helicopter safely.

I like the idea but not sure how realistic this would be. I guess time will tell how it all works out. We will definitely have to follow up on this one and see what happens.

This is also being introduced in our area but the price of one helicopter ride from one point to another is just so expensive for an average person to afford. The minimum airfare for the minimum distance is said to be around $70, and that's just for a one-way trip. You'd have to pay another $70 if you want to take another ride back to the point where you came from. And that's just for a 3-5 km ride. They say this is the perfect solution for people who don't want to spend long hours in a traffic jam but I just think this is meant to be for the richer few among us.

It would definitely be catering to the rich because the average person couldn't afford such rates but it is an option for those who have the money and want to avoid traffic.

There must be an upper ceiling on how much this business could grow, given regulations over airspace etc. It's a nice gimmick from Uber though, and completely in keeping with their concept of "disrupting the marketplace". That said, easyjet and ryanair did the same sort of thing with regular air travel, so who knows.....?

This would be a cool service to use if you wanted to look super "baller" on a date. Other than that I don't think Uber with helicopters is a practical thing. Plus, there are only certain market cities that would be good for this service, Las Vegas being one.

Great! It's about time! It's been complete chaos without this option! Now, next time I need a helicopter ride, I can just download the app and I'm all set!!:)
