We all could see this coming. I wonder where the world will be a few hundred years from now. I can see it being an A.I. type scifi scene where robots are running most things, and then there are a few humans for oversight. The rest of humans are living in complete squalor.
I don't think cameras have replaced security guards completely. Some places like malls and shopping centres usually have a control room with people monitoring the cameras while there's a security guard, or a few depending on the size of the place, in and around the mall who receive notifications from the control room on any suspicious goings on. Cameras have just become an aid for security.
If this topic interests you then watch reports from Davos. See the BBC, Bloomberg and CNBC are covering the robotics issues. Korea and Japan firms are showing some amazing robots that include AI capabilities.
This is why people need more skills. Elon Musk said it better: "You are only paid directly proportional with the problem you are solving". A robot will never be able to feel empathy, to understand properly the needs of the people, but it can surely be programmed to do things. This is where most of the adults fail: they learn only one skill and expect to make good money all their lives with it. Unless it's a really technical skill and not one that almost everyone has it, the future is still shady for them.
It sounds kind of scary. I remember hearing about robots replacing people decades ago. It sounded sci-fi, but know that time is here I guess. But new technologies have always caused disruptions in society, some good, some bad. There are things that will be invented and industries to go along with them that we aren't even aware of now.
Some called the Recession in 2008 the "man-cession" because men were the most heavily affected by job loss. Now the shoe will be on the other foot; I'm definitely interested to see what societal and cultural shifts will emerge in response to this phenomenon. Already the aspect of women being adversely affected will generate a lot of press and public concern--I predict feminist outrage at the advancement of technology. I'm being a bit cheeky here, but you know I'm right.
It's extremely frightening to read such news that robots are going to replace people in certain jobs. But I guess, this is the time to learn new skills, try another career or venture into business. When one door closes, another opens. So though this might be bad news for women out there, don't lose hope. There will be tons of jobs especially in the computer, internet and online industry. Good luck to us all!
No problems for Serbia then. Half of the people have no jobs and half of the other half are working illegally. Nevertheless, this really sounds interesting. What are the plans for those people who are left without their jobs. Are they going to get some settlement money? Maybe a new job? Maybe they will be left to starve to death. Who knows? The important thing is that time is money and robots are faster so more money. Yeah! That is what we need.
I understand that due to robots a lot of jobs will be lost, but at the same time many will be gained. There will be new job opportunitys created. There will be a lot of people needed to manufacture and design the robots, to create new robots, to maintain the robots, advertise and sell them. Many industrys will become more advanced and may need to hire more staff to handle it. I'm not saying its the best thing to have so many robots, but its going to happen whether people like it or not. The best thing to do is look at the positives.
