If this project ever got off the ground (Get it? Ba-Dum-Tss) then I should imagine they would be treated much the same as a microlight or other small aircraft, and as such it would have to conform to air regulations like respecting restricted airspace such as the Whitehouse.

:D Yep, sure did get it, Susimi, and it was a good one. Aw, so you're saying I don't get to legally shoot down the drone of someone peeking in my windows? Well what fun is that?!

I suppose you're right about the regulations, but I also suspect there would be a lot of people totally ignoring those regulations to fly around the neighborhood... that's not really too far-fetched, I guess?

I have to admit the joke was cheesy as all hell, but I had to go with it! :D

Flying around the neighbourhood I can see somewhat but I can't see restricted airspace being compromised much because I can imagine these things will be heavily regulated if they became popular. As for peeping through the windows of peoples houses...I can both see it happening and can't. I mean you're bound to see this huge lumbering thing hovering right outside your window. Shooting it might be a little too strong, maybe throw a net over it which will have much the same effect :D

A net... yes, I'll keep that in mind. There would be no end to the creative ways people would find to knock human carrying drones out of the air which would open a whole new area of legal ramifications. I just can't see this happening. I mean there have been prototypes for flying cars, too, but I highly doubt I'll ever be able to fly to London or Paris.

The reason this even came to mind (the peeping thing) was that my neighbor *did* recently catch another neighbor... and elderly perv, apparently... doing just that... peeping in his window and told him if he'd ever see that again, "prepare to be shot." UGH! So I envisioned him making his rounds on a drone and had to giggle.

Okay, okay, I have a warped sense of humor, but it's mine.

This will take a LOOOONG time to become a viable mode of transportation, if it ever will. But in a couple of decades ago this could be how we travel. I can already see the advantage over cars... when getting back from the bar you don't need a driver and you get to finish your last beer with a lovely view of the city from high up there. ;)

... and hope that you don't pass out or get dizzy enough to fall off your drone, eh, crimsonghost? It's a loooooong way down even if you're flying low! Maybe my vision of these things isn't accurate? I'm thinking of being strapped on top (the original link crashed me, so I didn't try again) but maybe it's enclosed?

Wouldn't it have to be too large for that? Then again, maybe my science fiction side of my brain envisions something that wouldn't be doable at all... help me out here, ghost... enclosed big enough for a human? What if the human is like REALLY large? Inquiring minds MUST know these things! :p

Sounds, interesting, but I will not be among the first in line to try these babies out!! China has a reputation for shoddy quality. Government and business corruption contribute greatly to this, so I don't see that reputation improving in the near future.
