Dubai IS already a big tourist destination. Quite frankly during my stay in the UAE I was never treated badly or "not accepted" It's really not as bad as you think.

As many people native to the middle east say: Dubai is empty. They have a ton of real estate, and a healthy amount of tourism.. But honestly, that's it (Oil isn't that major anymore). The world's tallest building, which is situated in Dubai, is not being used. That's crazy. And those two revenue generating posts are not enough for a country's economy to be stable. Luckily they have a big reserve, but I wouldn't invest my money in it just yet.

Tourism is just the tip of the ice berg. Off course what we really need from the tourists is the money they spend on their vacation. The foreign currency they bring to the country gets spent to local business establishments, which helps local or foreign entreps expand their business, and response to that, they hire more people so it genererates more job and also improves local infrastructures, enhance skills of employees and so on.

I don't know about you guys, but I would really like to visit Dubai someday! I know it may sound overrated but I've seen so many pictures and videos on Youtube and everything seems as if it's the year 2080 there.
I too believe that Dubai will live off tourism and I see nothing wrong about that. I know that prices are probably very high in Dubai, but I wish I could save up some money and spend my holidays in Dubai once.

There's an issue with the tourism in Dubai though. While half the country lives in luxury, the other lives in abject squalor. Tourism is never going to help with that, and I'd like to think, although I may be wrong, that the tourism will dry up until they fix the issues with their society.

I've heard similar tales regarding visiting Dubai. In fact, there are quite a few horror stories often pertaining to women.
While these may just be sensationalized articles, it's something you never know for certain. Without question though, it's up to you to decide if you can put that out of your mind and enjoy a visit there.

With regard to tourism though, you never know if they're aware of this blemish and trying to either cover it up or improve upon it.

Yes, the thing you've heard is true. I have some of my relatives there. Dubai's law is quite strict regarding females. You can get punished badly even if you are caught travelling with an woman at night. Woman are only allowed to travel with their men or close relatives. It's quite strict comparing to other countries.

It really does semm like a beautiful place to visit and quite safe if you are looking to vacation in the middle east. They are smart for investing the oil money in tourism as this will carry them on for many years to come.

Dubai is a beutiful place to go and tour, people used to be scared of Dubai, but it seems that it has improved on its security status, that many people are starting to flock there, to tour the beutiful place, thus it has increased employment both to its self and othe countries, giving a boost to the economy.

Wasn't Dubai the city that wanted to be the "smartest city in the world"?

It's quite reasonable that they're makign so much money on tourism. I constnatly hear about my friends and close ones going there for some reason, but personally I don't really see what would be so fun in going to Dubai. Anyway, people like it there, so I guess it's great that dubai can sustain themselves on tourism.
