I can't stop thinking about all of the verified benefits of real meditation for soothing nerves and neural pathways. I've seen articles where they tracked patients on MRI machines and other equipment and the benefits are actually quantifiable. So I want to research it for that reason alone. I think combining yoga and meditation seems like it can improve your life in ways that can be proven. If the abstract works for people I won't bash them but I'm also looking for tangible benefits in life as well.
Meditation, I believe, has been grossly misrepresented. There are so many untrue "meditation myths" circulating all over the net, myths which have been accepted as fact by people who know little about the real purpose of meditation. Fact is as with everything in life it's the attitude that will make the experience satisfactory. Can meditation take the place of religion in the lives of people? For some it can, for others it won't.
I would really like to be able to get into meditation to a point where I am very focused but my attention span is so rubbish that my mind always wanders whenever I try. When you did it, what happens when you got to that point where you were focused? Was it like the world was blocked out and how did you feel?
I've meditated but I don't think it'll ever replace my faith in terms of beliefs, practices and tradition. Ofcourse there are a lot of health benefits associated with meditation but there are also benefits to my soul, consciousness and community feeling that I can only get in my religion of Roman Catholicism. You can practice both in your life though I don't see why you have to subtract one.
I see your point. Religion has brought so many wars in this world that we're fed of. Even now it does. Religion is the whole pest of this world. It's what keeps us from progressing. Meditation though... isn't bad at all. I do it on a daily basis and am not regretting it whatsoever.
I don't see religion and meditation as the same thing or one replacing the other. Plenty of people meditate who are not religious. They do it as a way to relax and deal with the stresses in their life. They may or may not also attend church. To me I can't even compare one to the other.
This is a very interesting topic, however I myself do not meditate. In fact, I am not even sure how you do meditate! It is something I am interested in now , especially with its apparent benefits.
Meditation doesn't work. It doesn't reduce stress or help with psychological issues. It wont make you a better person or change how you deal with the world. It isn't a miracle cure for anything. It doesn't provide a structure or a belief system so it can't replace religion for people.
Meditation opens the doorway to demons in your life. It's dangerous and ungodly. And what you need is relationship with Christ, not religion. Christ brought grace so we could be reconciled to God and have fellowship with him because our sin separates us from him.
