If you are going to pull the trigger then you need to be sure there are no bullets in the gun. One Texas man who failed to do that whilst playing with his children, shot his daughter in the chest.

The man was tracked down and arrested. Not the best father IMHO. He should have been at the hospital not hiding in a parking lot.

He hid in a parking lot? Okay, maybe I'm just way too cynical, but I've found out with a lot of journalism experience that these things usually aren't what they appear to be. More often than not, the "OMG, it's was an ACCIDENT, woe is me!" garbage is fake. I mean, what kind of dad "pretends to shoot" their child?!

A lot of the people who claim to "accidentally" lock babies in cars, too, are later found to have been searching things like how to get away with the perfect crime of getting rid of kids on the Internet history of their computer.

Yeah, my intuition is going crazy on this one.... "ooops, didn't know there were bullets"... no, that just doesn't fly with me.

First hold it towards the ground and away from anyone as people do when they load a gun. Simple really, which does make you think should people with not much common sense own guns? I can't believe he ran away seeing as he couldn't really escape the fact he was guilty. Again, not much common sense or intelligence.

    It's a shame that stupidity isn't painful.

:) I don't know Alex... you're thinking people without more common sense than that shouldn't own guns... and I'm thinking that people without more common sense than that shouldn't have *children!* ;) "Pretending to shoot the children".... good gracious.

I really do just pray for the days when we do not have to hear about stories like this. There are so many disasters that are really unpreventable and it is just sad when we hear about ones that are very much within our own control. I am sure these things will never end, but man it is nice to see some reason and some common sense every once in a while.

These are the kind of stores that give gun owners a bad name. I'm all for the 2nd amendment, but we need to do a better job of practicing gun safety in this country. These type of accidents just gives more fodder to our enemies that wish to take away our Constitutional rights. To point your gun at a kid, even in a joking manner is completely unacceptable. I don't care if the gun is loaded or not. Accidents like this happen time and time again. It looks like people would learn that you shouldn't mess around with guns. At all.

WTF? Really? This guy had no clue, and no right owning a firearm.
The four basic rules of a firearm are:
    1) Never point a gun at something you don't intend to shoot and kill.
    2) ALWAYS treat a gun as if it were loaded.
    3) Know exactly where you round will go.
    4) Finger off the trigger until it's time to shoot.

This is why I don't think everyone has the right to firearms ownership. If you can't follow these universal, basic rules you should not be allowed to own a gun.

Once when I was young we were messing around with pellet guns when my friend jokingly point it at me. I immediately punched him right in the face, gave him a black eye. He was really upset and got mad because "he was only joking, it wasn't even loaded." To me, you point a gun and always assume it's loaded and always assume you intent to shoot what you point it at. His father called mine and actually thank me, because he was a responsible gun owner and that kid got grounded for the rest of the summer.

The worst part of this story is that he didn't even own up and ran off to leave his child. It may speak volumes about his (lack of) parenting skills and also how his kids look up to him or not. Stupidity isn't a crime, but doing stupid things is when it harms another.

Oh my goodness, what's wrong in this world? This, it's definitely this! First of all, he shouldn't even be playing with the gun with his kids around. Second of all, he shouldn't even be pointing the gun to their direction. Third of all, he should have rushed his kid to the hospital and stayed there. Fourth of all, why isn't there an immediate warrant of arrest? He was arrested two weeks after. Fifth of all, why did they even give him a gun in the first place? There really should be more tests and exams before allowing someone to legally carry a gun.
