And why is this news? Seriously now, a stupid person tries to make an excuse for getting fine and it's on the news? You people do realise this kind of stupid stuff happens probably tens of thousands of times in a day?

Of course it happens many times a day but isn't reported. This time, for whatever reason it has been. Furthermore, it's been posted on the forum for people to read, and those that hadn't seen it, like me for one, chose to comment on it further.

Just because it's something that happens on a regular basis, doesn't mean that it can't be news.

From where I am, we don't have that badge for the disabled. We do have parking spaces especially meant for senior citizens and disabled individuals. Unfortunately, even those individuals who aren't of the said categories, use those parking spaces. Most of the time, these parking spaces are filled and when we see those car owners, they're pretty young and not disabled at all. Hmmm... And unfortunately, not all authorities check on these said car owners as well.

Certainly, those badges are there for a reason. This young woman should not have used the badge for such a purpose. There are many disabled individuals who do need those parking spaces more than her. Why not just walk from the farther parking space? A little exercise won't hurt a young woman like her.

I am thinking she must have done this more then once, otherwise how would the police have known for sure? I have to agree though, I have gone to many different places and saw handicap parking left empty. Equally I have gone to many a rest room that only had two stalls one of which was designated handicap assessable and been left with the decision on whether to use that one or just wait. Just because it is assessable does that mean that only the handicap could use it? Actually I have the same thoughts on some of these family restrooms, if the regular one has a line can a single person use the family one?

Don't misunderstand I totally get that people with handicaps need the use of additional things like closer spots and wider areas to get to the bathroom, my question is though, in every situation is the fact that it is handicap assessable always 100% meant strictly for the use by those individuals? No one gets permits for the toilet, and on the bus, regular people sit in the handicapped seats, they just move if someone that really should have it comes in.

I do agree though, to take someone's permit that is dead and use it for yourself when you are young and able is just disgraceful behavior, the fine though does seem to be quite steep. maybe that's the only way to deter such actions.

Did she really believe that kind of statement would "hold water." Might as well she had just admitted her guilt in the first instance, then probably the judge would have been more lenient with the fine.

Well it is not believable at all, and I am glad that she is going to have to pay the fines, but I guess you have to give her a little credit for the try. I mean why not try? I wouldn't want to pay 2,000 either. I would not commit that crime though because that is certainly sketchy and irresponsible and immature and all of that.

So many people mis use those disabled or handicapped parking passes. Some people will specifically take a relatives car because of the disabled parking pass. I just think it is wrong, and so does the law of course. I think that those that mis use those parking passes should have to pay a fine. I think in most places the fine is about 500 dollars and that seems fitting. The passes are issued for a reason, and should only be for those who need them.
