It's more than just a catchphrase used by motivational speakers. Too often many people fail to achieve their dreams because they give up too soon. If you are one of those people who is thinking about giving up on something then this story should motivate you not to give up. http://www.theguardian.com/world/2016/mar/16/french-woman-aged-91-gets-phd-after-30-years As long as you are alive don't give up on your dreams. You can get what you seek. Age doesn't matter.
This really touched me. I'm currently still in education with people that are like 1-2 years younger than me and whilst there are some people still older than me, I really do feel out of place. I now realize that I'm being silly in assuming that I'm "too old" for this form of education and age should not stop you from achieving your goal in life and dream profession. Thanks for this post, it's really inspiring to me on a personal level.
There's this 92 year old man who was in the news last year. He'd dropped out of high school when he was 17 and decades later, he went back to school so he could get his high school diploma. He didn't feel out of place. All he wanted was his high school diploma and he got it.
I don't think it's ever too late, but naysayers will tell you that. I am hoping to return to study, but there is little support when I hear those words, 'it's a bit late' and they decide to back it up with no career prospects. I do ignore them as they don't know my motives, but people that don't support you either cut them out, or just don't tell them your plans. I support people going back to study because we all change our minds about what we enjoy and want to do. Is it better to stay in a job you hate until you die, or stop and try something else?
I know someone who didn't like his job. He was a vet. Apparently he'd only become a vet because that's what his parents wanted. After doing the job for a number of years and saving enough money, he went back to college to study something else even though his new job [if he got one] wouldn't make him a lot of money. Once you change your mind, nothing should hold you back. We all are here to enjoy life after all and if you are certain something may get you the satisfaction you seek, then go for it.
I do feel there is pressure to achieve early and to brag about achievements. What I do find is that many that are able to switch careers and go back to study are able to do so with family money. The fear of getting into debt does put people off, but once you realize their are no guarantees in life, it's worth taking that chance after all companies can go broke.
You should dream until your last living breath and go on to achieve your goals. It is never too late to do the things you want in life and achieve good things in your life. 91, that is so awesome that she was able to get her PhD. I hope that I can still have the capacity to do great things like that even at that age.
Yes, this is true, but at times you need to reframe your dream or try a different way to achieve it. Some things are probably always going to be out of our grasp, for different reasons, but you may still be able to achieve what you want using different methods and strategies. I agree sometimes dreams have to be deferred or approached another way but most are achievable.
This is really inspiring. I'm actually studying psychology and there's this 50-60 year old women in our generation, it's a student just like all of us and I think that's amazing, maybe she always wanted to study that but she never could, and every day that I see her I remember that she's chasing her dreams, no matter what other people might say, she's there for her and I think that's amazing.
Age should never be an issue for things, but it is. Certain careers prefer younger people and others only want older ones, but it should be based on suitability rather than age. It's something that has developed in society, first it was gender and then it was age and race.
