Attempt to fix what with rehabilitation? It's too late to fix the crime since it has happened, just as it is with the death penalty.
However I have yet to hear of someone committing another crime after they have been killed, whereas I have heard of a lot of people committing crimes after their rehabilitation.

Rehabilitation doesn't always work, but is deciding whether someone should live or die answer? The fact that the death penalty is abolished in many countries in the world, indicates that a large majority of the legal systems int he world do not consider this a just means of punishment. While incarceration costs money, maybe the ineffectual judicial system needs to be streamlined so there are less people in prison for petty crimes, thus is reserved for serious crimes.

I actually think that death penalty is senseless and waste of energy and creative potential. Instead of killing a murderer we should just keep them busy and closely guarded with special shackles and stuff. What good is if you kill him. It is not going to bring anyone from the dead. I say that those who deserve death penalty should be sent to jobs that are very hard and of course without payment. Only with meals and water. In this way those people who have hard jobs like miners or platform workers will have help and not just them. It could be arranged that they rotate so everybody feel the help.

I was born and raised in a Catholic home and our orientation is against killing. However, with the perpetrators of heinous crimes, I go for death penalty. It's not really the killing of the death penalty that matters much to me but the prevention. When the convicted criminal is put to death then he cannot commit any crime anymore. There are many criminals who are repeat offenders of their crime particularly the rapists and the murderers mostly due to the use of illegal drugs. So for those committing heinous crimes, they deserve to die.

I do agree with it, but I don't agree with the way we go about it. I think anyone convicted without a reasonable doubt of rape, murder, the attempt of either of those, etc. should be sentenced to death... but there shouldn't be any amount of doubt possible that they did it.

There have been too many people in the US who have been sentenced to death and then they later on found out that they were innocent. I did a huge paper on it in college.

Death penalty isn't a good solution for me. Why? It's a sweet escape especially for rapists and child abusers. I don't think killing them is enough punishment for them. It's an easy way out for all the crimes they have committed. For me, it's better for them to suffer in prison rather than die easily. And with the prisons here in my country, they will suffer all right. The heat would be unbearable and there is not enough space for everyone. But yeah, some powerful prisoners take advantage of the corrupt system and they get to have their own sweet rooms. But that's another issue.

    You know the
saying an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth? I think it should apply to crime makers. If you kill someone, then you can be in for death penalty. But if you rape someone, then you better have a punishment equivalent to that. If you abuse a child, then it's better if your hands that did the crime be removed for life. Yeah, it's brutal but it's the only way to make things equal, at least in my opinion.

Google the cost associated with capital punishment.
I hate when my tax dollars are wasted, so I would never vote to allow my country to reinstate the death penalty because it ends up costing more then incarceration.
I don't see the point of spending even more money on the criminal justice system just to kill a few people that some bureaucrat deemed not worthy enough to live.

Sorry I wanted to multi quote this with my last response but I goofed up somehow.

Anyways here's a public service announcement to anyone who currently believes that a death sentence is somehow cheaper then incarceration.
It's not. There is overwhelming evidence to show that each person on death row costs taxpayers MORE then each person incarcerated.
    Please stop spreading this misinformation.
I have yet to see even one credible source that talks about how capital punishment is a cost-effective criminal justice tool.

This is a complex issue that many shy away from. Whether it is a deterrent or not is debatable. In some countries where the death penalty has been enforced, there is negligible decline in crime. Another issue is that as an aspect of restorative justice, it does not restore the crime. My take is that only proven murder suspects should be subjected to the death sentence taking into account the mitigating factors.

Yes, I believe heinous crimes like serial rape or murder should be punished by death. The problems are that there are plenty of cases where there is reasonable doubt. Also, economically, it costs more to imprison death penalty prisoners over regular prisoners. I need to look into it more, but I do belief death is a reasonable punishment for some criminals.
