Unicorns didn't exist only in stories. According to a study published in the Journal of Applied Sciences, the last Siberian Unicorn died around 29,000 years ago.

    What next? Dragons were real?

I saw this and it's quite amusing, because no one knows if it's true. In any case real Unicorns don't die, so while the find was good, making up a name for it is a bit silly. Still, it got some press which is a change from terrorism, or the migrant crisis, oh and the US Presidential campaign.

That is very funny. If there wasn't fossil evidence I would be hard pressed to believe that dinosaurs were ever real. I would be more likely to believe that dragons were real at some point. You never know, there are unicorn whales out in the ocean, it would not be a big leap to find that there were unicorn horses in existence at some point...I just doubt they were rainbow colored as depicted in cartoons.

Aw, I have read about this news article before. The weird thing is, the description of the unicorn fits Pliny's description of it:

"The unicorn is the fiercest animal and it is said that it is impossible to capture one alive. It has the body of a horse, the head of a stag, the feet of an elephant, the tail of a boar and a single black horn three feet long in the middle of its forehead."

    -Pliny the Elder

When you look at the picture in the articles, it greatly fits these descriptions. Of course, it's far from the unicorn we have all known, which looks more like a horse with a horn in its head. But it could be that through generations, the descriptions were messed up and changed by the people.

Keep in mind though that Pliny isn't really the most reliable resource of information since his works have been criticised far too often for its conflicting ideas.

The article is saying what I expected. It's not really much of a unicorn. It's more rhino than it is a horse like animal. Considering we know the rhino exists for real, it's not surprising that a similar animal was found to exist before going extinct.

I want to believe unicorns are real and true so I can settle with this news. Siberian unicorn is actually a pretty cool name, maybe I'll use it in future forums. LOL. I think they also found a fossil of a sea unicorn as well. I wonder how those horns become useful in the wild though.

Maybe what they found was a goat with some defect. It is interesting and 29000 years ago is quite a number. I have less to none knowledge about these things but I have to say I like the idea of unicorns being real. I do not know about their history in fairytales and cartoons. Who thought of that animal in the first place?

I saw that story also. It is rather fanciful to think about, but the horse has evolved so much over time that it is not surprising at all. I think that many species have evolved over time even more than we are currently aware of. THe history of the earth encompasses a very long period of time. Obviously changes, and evolution happened.
