The 2 religions in the world with the most followers; Christianity and Islam spread through tears and blood. Even today, there are ignorant religious terrorists calling themselves jihadists. If there is a hell, I think religion will be the main cause of sending people to the pits. Even Adolf Hitler called himself a Christian.

Religious groups may have spread and braced out over the years, but they all have a core belief in their creator. It just has to do with that some people believed slightly different things than others and the branched out to practice their own beliefs.

Well, back then people didn't have much of a choice. You were either Christian, pretending to be one or executed. That's all. This is how religion spread this much in the Medieval Ages mostly. It doesn't surprise me at all. Nowadays, at least where I live, I see a drastical God faith reduction. In 2005, nationwide at least 65% of the population believed God existed, in 2014 it decreased to 39%. That's actually a very lot!

It's true that religion was spread across the world by violent means. I don;t really know why, but I guess the fact that we're not forcing entire countries into a religion is a proof of progress, no matter how small it may be.

Religion has spread across the world because people want to believe in something. Look at what's happening in the middle east, everyone is crazy about a killing religion and believing in the after death...

This is really interesting, but is still religion, you know? I'm pretty sure that if those religions wouldn't spread around the world, the people would create a new one, because I think that an important thing in life (or at least for a lot of people) has to do with the security of believe in something, we are humans, we tend to search the meaning about everything, and life isn't an exception.
