For a country that hates infidelity, we really relish cheating on our partner(s)

In the US, the word 'polygamy/polyandry' is almost a taboo, and if you ask people what they'd want from their partners/spouses, nine out of ten times you'll hear the word, 'fidelity'. But do we really believe it?

Our media is over-saturated with infidelity. Every TV show, every movie has some form of infidelity. In fact, the more infidelity and cheating a TV drama has, the more ratings a TV show gets. For people who vehemently propose the idea of 'till death do us part', it kinda sounds a bit hypocritic, don't you think?

You are Indian, so, hope you knew about Indian TV shows also. My mother see, Saas-Bahu (Mother-in-Law, Daughter-in-Law) serials, thanks god, she see only 1 serial. many women just sit in front of TV for watching these serials.
1 woman, who calls me brother, she saw such serials regularly and 1 day, she blamed her husband for cheating with her,she claimed he had affair with 1 woman in office, who joined job just 10-15days ago, even she beat her husband. Husband called me and said, tell her something. I can't handle. I told her, sister, by blaming your husband you are teasing another woman, you have any proof ? she said, no. I tried to make her calm. but not worked, next day she called that woman on phone and abused her and that woman so hurt inside, she left her job.

I really surprise, How women enjoy such TV shows ? Today's bakwaas (worst) Bollywood Movies, in songs you hear common words like Daaru (wine), Chhammak-Chhalon etc. ( I stopped watching bollywood movies).descent language also missing somewhere. Kids saw such movies and waste their time . 15year old kid asked me, 8 years ago, I want girlfriend. I told him, first focus on education, earn respect then think about woman or you will get girlfriend same like you. but, who cares ?

In democracy, If most citizens love and enjoy such kind of TV shows, why Govt. should take any action ? if 25% citizens against such Hypocrisy, Govt. can go against 75% ?

While I'm sure that everyone wants a partner they can trust, it seems that the whole world no matter what culture is getting more and more promiscuous these days and while I don't agree with it, I think it's just a sign of the times now.

Bring with just one person I'd seemed as old fashioned, but if that is the case, I'd rather be old fashioned and lonely than with somebody who's not committed to me.

My stand on infidelity is this - it is human nature to seek greener pasture and it applies to love or marriage. Some places in some countries have the fidelity of couples due to the environment. One study that I had read in a local newspaper showed that fidelity in that island province was being observed simply because the people know everyone. In other words, how can someone cheat on his wife or husband when he couldn't keep it a secret? Well, I agree with that study because it is the society that dictates fidelity.

Only if you believe what you see on TV. There are so many discontinuities between whats on television and reality it isn't even funny. Things that are taboo get ratings, so if it is getting the viewers, yes it probably really is a taboo.

The point of the media is to get views, because that's what they get paid for. They could make a TV series of John and Jenny who get married at 20 and spend the rest of their life raising cows on a farm and live happily ever after... but really who would watch that year after year?

It is exactly the opposite. It is becoming widely accepted to cheat on a significant other. There seems to be less of a stigma behind it. My only thoughts on the matter is that it's become so rampant that it's the new norm. It's really sad for the kids out there that are affected by these relationships, and the separation of their parents.

I don't know... I think it's maybe wanting something you can't have. Most Americans are in a loving and committed relationship with their partners and the only time they can commit adultery is in their head or when watching these movies and TV that you speak of.

My understanding of this differs to some extent. To me, it's completely okay to have multiple partners all the time. However, that shouldn't be kept a secret. Some girls are completely okay with this, some aren't. Just don't lead anyone one.

I think in some cultures then it is acceptable to have a number of wives or girlfriends, but like you say, it's honest and open and so it's acceptable for everyone.

The secrets and lies that some people tell when they have multiple partners, is far worse than the fact they've got multiple partners in the first place.
