For a country that hates infidelity, we really relish cheating on our partner(s)

Infidelity has become 'acceptable' and not as scandalous as it used to be except if you are a politician or a member of royalty. I still think it's frowned on and makes a person look cheap and disrespectful, but there are some sectors of society that don't care for public opinion and while morally wrong, it can still be grounds for divorce but people are no longer surprised.

I think many people who love these kind of shows, may be in relationships they want to get out of but for some reason can't. By watching these shows they vicariously experience what they want but can't have. Promiscuous people should date other promiscuous people and have an agreement that theirs is an open relationship. That way they'd not hurt their partners.

I kinda agree with you. I personally don't like these "open relationship" kinds of things but I think it's completely fine if others do it, as long as everyone is on the same page.

Our preferences in TV viewing material doesn't necessarily reflect our core values. People watch violent movies, but it doesn't imply that they'll go out and copy that violence. I think people are drawn to things that horrify them, actually, so infidelity and violence would be right up there on a list of those things.

I don't think infidelity being a big theme in US media is somehow reflective of some positive American view of infidelity. I don't understand how you connected those two. It really doesn't make any sense.

I think that there's a lot of different people in this world and with them, there's a lot of different perceptions about love and fidelity, some people are fine with having a poly-romantic relationship and some others don't. And as a lot of people I still don't know how does that works but we need to respect that. I think that I wouldn't be able to be in that type of relationship because I would probably get bored, lol.

It's all rubbish if you ask me. I mean the shows and infidelity thing related to religion or whatever. We put to much on our little shoulders and we realize at some point how shortly and briefly we walk around on this planet. If you look at the big picture it really doesn't matter. It's like we care too much for some stuff and I am not trying to imply that we should look at life like a path to our deaths but we just pressure ourselves too much about some things we invented. We made all those problems that we are fighting all the time. It is senseless in so many ways.

I can understand your point. Here in my country, the most highly rated shows are about infidelity as well. And for such a conservative country, it's confusing why people support these shows. I guess the thrill of it all makes them want to watch these shows. You know, since you cannot experience infidelity, why not just enjoy it in a show? After all, at least in these shows your wildest fantasies can happen.

On another side, there are still cases of infidelity here in my country. And it's so bad that the mistresses are even glorified at time. Why? Because most of these mistresses are young woman who hold on to rich, old men. At least from most of my relatives, that's what has happened in their marriage and infidelity stories.

Eventually, real life is different from television series. Even with these real-life infidelity stories, the marriage still persists which doesn't happen in series.
