I don't know what to say in that regard but from my own opinion and what i saw a friend go through in that light {she almost died and nowadays says she's haunted by that terrible act}, am against abortion, taking into consideration the health risks involved, then again, if its a matter of life and death for the mother {miscarriage} then that's allowable, other than that, i say a big NO.
Governor Nixon speaks a lot of sense on this issue - Missouri already has a mandatory 24-hour waiting period before a woman can proceed with abortion, so why should she have to wait any longer? As he points out, the woman is likely already dealing with a crisis situation, so there's no need to prolong her trauma. The US is rather different from most other countries in the developed world in that people seem to think that government should decide on issues such as whether someone can have an abortion. This should always be a very personal decision, and one that should not be taken lightly - however it is not something that affects the rest of society!
I find it insulting as a woman. Most women who consider abortion have already given it a long consideration. It's not an easy decision and although I don't support abortion, I'm also not someone who is going to shove her beliefs down other people's throats. The problem with this silly law is a lack of consideration for a woman's emotional state when deciding on abortion and being intrusive into the lives of women. The decision of abortion should only be between the woman, her partner and/or those she trust the most to confide in. I'm glad this crappy legislation was Veto by Missouri's governor.
Hey, I would like to weigh in on this discussion. I think it is important that I point out that I am male. Given the fact that it is women who undergo the procedure that terminates pregnancies, I think that the decision about whether to undergo that procedure should be left to the individual. I don't think that there is any reason why the state should interfere in such a personal decision. For this reason, I commend the governor for doing what he did. That being said, I don't think that enough emphasis is being put on preventing unwanted or unplanned pregnancies. I think that the government can do more to make contraceptives available to those that need it because doing so will definitely reduce the number of unplanned pregnancies and as a result, the number of abortions. I have always said that free birth control should be available to ALL women regardless of their ability to pay and that more money should be invested into developing reversible contraceptive methods for men. If this is done then the demand for pregnancy termination services will drop and the entire abortion debate will become irrelevant because there is no demand for those services.
I agree that it is insulting. It's none of the governments business what we do with our body. This is a deeply personal issue that has no place in politics, just like religion. The government doesn't place a a 72 hour waiting period if we want to skydive or get a tattoo. Besides, how many abortions do you think are spur of the moment decisions? Most of these choices are very thought out and considered.
This is a decision that should be left to an individual woman ,becuase we do not know why they want to terminate whatever they are carrying.
Again from a realistic point I think that the government just wants to have complete control over our bodies and minds. I mean let the woman decide if she wants to do with herself. I do not believe that governments should ever be able to decide how people live with themselves it is just unacceptable.
