To think that teens are subjected to such horrendous acts is beyond me, i thought they should be in class making a future for themselves yet they are put in weird situations, one can imagine what their families were going through, the torture must have been immense, thank God that's over and done with...at least they'll be re-united with their families.

We're not shocked because of the prostition, nor are we shocked that teenagers are involved. It happens, and any woman who is above age should be, and is allowed the choice as to whether they want to go into this industry or not.

We are however shocked that it's girls as young as thirteen who are being forced into this industry. Prostitution may be one of the oldest professions in the world, but child prostitution is not. Even if it was, that wouldn't make it any less shocking when we are reminded that it exists.

That is a big mess, I do not think that prostitution can ever come to an end, but it becomes risky when there are young kids out there getting involved in it, it would make one wonder if the parents to this kids are aware, I believe the parents should be informed, but high penalties should be charged for such activities.

Considering these kids have been abducted into these child trafficking rings, I'd say that no the parents are not aware.

Disturbing. Adults allowing themselves to take advantage of younger people for money is just sick. Teen prostitution is a real problem and people really need to realize that. Prostitution itself should be legal for adults but not for the younger generations who are much easier to take advantage of mentally, emotionally, and physically. Such a painful thing to hear nowadays.

Hello JR Erwing, it seems like once again I am inclined to agree with you. I read your entry in the "Pay more taxes thread" and I felt that you made a very good point there. I feel the same way about what you have said here. The fact remains that people generally avoid situations that might be harmful to them. Going to purchase sexual services from an illegal operation is inherently dangerous because the transaction itself is illegal. This means that if you are cheated, robbed or otherwise hurt while conducting this transaction you have very few ways to seek redress. This dynamic naturally attracts shady people.

If people had an option to purchase these services from legal and regulated places they most definitely will do so out of self interest. This will put shady operators out of business and will reduce the probability of tragic and disgusting things like this from happening. If you don't believe that legalization or decriminalization is the way to go, think about this: do people buy bread from back-alley operations run by gangsters? The answer is NO. Why? Because they can buy bread from grocery stores that are regulated. It really is that simple.

I know that many people are against the legalization of prostitution because they find the activity morally repugnant but the fact is that not everybody feels this way, and from a harm-reduction perspective, legalization makes a lot of sense. Germany is one country that has decriminalized prostitution and it remains a respected and respectable country. This is something we all need to think about.

LOL, so, the state should become the pimp, the tax prostitutes pay would be inferior do what they pay their regular pimp and that would make everything ok?

There will always be the buyers to fully-support this dreadful "business", unfortunately. There's no much to be done by us the people but to wait for further actions to be taken by the Government, which is less-likely to happen anyway.

I think that legalization of prostitution and the protections it would create would help us to avoid situations like this. If it were legal and regulated, it would help control the human trafficking element of the industry that seems so harmful to many young women.

I couldn't agree more. Prostitution DEFINITELY needs to be legalized, as it needlessly puts people in jail.

Seriously, some people have to resort to it just to get by, because they can't find other jobs. If it was legal, these people could enter an actually regulated market, and it'd be a win win for pretty much everyone (both the people wanting to sell their bodies and the people wanting to buy).

I find it stupid how sex for fun between two consenting adults is entirely legal, but sex for pay is not. It just seems like an arbitrary restriction.
