Donald Trump is estimated to be worth around $3.5 billion which begs the question, has there ever been a wealthier Western leader than Donald Trump?
Good question. The US presidents Herbert Hoover and John F. Kennedy were wealthy when they took office, but I don't know that there personal fortune adjusted to Q4 2016 dollars would best the Trumpster. Outside of the US, the king of Saudi Arabia (Salman) is very wealthy and I believe more so than our current President-elect, but that wouldn't qualify as "western". I'm less familiar with the history of Prime Ministers in the UK, but one with a net worth in Trump's zone doesn't come to mind.
Yeah, I think the Trumpster is probably tops by far. Of course a big chunk of his wealth is not liquid and is at least somewhat speculative - commercial and residential properties, his "brand", etc.
That is something he needs to take care of. That's something that many Republicans who get into government need to be very careful about, since many of them come into government after being successful in the private sector, and much of the media are out to get them once they get into politics as Republicans. Many dems on the other hand tend to be lifelong political hacks who only accomplish things AFTER getting into office - and the largely biased US media usually gives dems a pass on such conflicts - see Hillary Clinton.
Personally, putting aside all of the issues with Donald Trump, I would prefer to have a businessman in charge, someone who's been there, done it and knows exactly how business works.
Put it this way, you wouldn't put someone wit no medical experience in charge of a hospital so why put a non-business person in charge of the US economy?
