Thank you for all the input. We have over 6 acres of land, so it's going to take us awhile to landscape! We have a lot of property! :) We have started to do some stuff on our own and it's a lot of work, but sounds like it will be worth it in the end.

No problem, but wow, 6 acres? That is indeed a lot of property, if I had money to invest I'd go for a swimming pools and a tennis club, that would value your property through the roof. :)

Excellent point. I've gone to many house showings and auctions with my family and the number of places that get over bid on just because the garden is impressive is ridiculous! Furthermore, a well kept and maintained garden tends to show that there has been care taken to maintain it and most likely the house as well.

Landscaping is a small price to pay when the extra you will get for you house will cover the costs.

If you have a house on a corner you can tack on even more value that landscaping you do. Corner lots typically go for more than houses in the middle of a street, so it goes figure that curb appeal is even more important

I would say that the landscaping is pretty much essential to adding value to the property. The better you are able to take care of the landscape more value to be able to find from your property. I would say this as a rule of thumb for the entire piece of property. If you have a great landscape and the inside of your house is pretty much useless then you won't really have any value on your property. And this works the other way around. But if you asking what's more preferable that you do your interior way exterior, then i say interior first and then when you can transcend into the exterior.

The value of my old neighbors house definitely suffered due to their inability to take care of their landscaping. They were very lazy and never cut the grass, always let the kids destroy their bushes, and put a big pool on top of the backyard that absolutely killed the grass. I think it plays a bigger part than most people realize. If you take care of the outside, you are probably taking care of the inside too. Prospective buyers will see that and be confident that the house has been taken care of and they aren't buying a property that has been beaten to the ground.

Well, it depends on how well you landscape the house. The outside of the house is the first thing people see when they view your house to buy. If they get blown away before they even walk in the door, they will already have a positive feeling about the house. You don't want a potential buyer pulling up to your house and going 'this is the house?'

I am not a professional but a home with a yard is more attractive than one without. People like attractive things; therefore it is easier to sell a house with a well kept garden. If the yard is neglected, it brings down the value of the home. It is all about the first impression.

I think it's worth the time and money. Renters and buyers need to be able to see themselves in the property. Their first impression is the exterior of the home and yard. If it's uncared for they will have a sour first impression. That feeling could make or break a sale.

So true, before I visit a property I take a good look around it to see if I feel good there, if I don't, forget the inside. It's a whole package. ;)
