I hope this isn't a repeat thread... it didn't come up in the search I just did. I wasn't sure whether to choose Cocktail Lounge or Politics, so I'll try the lounge. Anyhow, what do you see as the implications of the passenger jet being shot down over Ukraine? Russia is blaming Ukraine, as it was predicted would happen. But what if it's found that it was Russia's military? (not the separatists, they wouldn't have been equipped to do this.) I'm not saying done on purpose, of course... but by accident. Do you see this as having worldwide ramifications? Or will the world in general consider it an accident and let it fade away?
Ukraine itself admitted that it's militants [Ukrainian rebels] who shot down the plane. But the militants got the missiles from Russia so either way Russia will nonetheless be blamed for the atrocity. Had they not supplied the weapons to the separatists in the first place none of that would have happened. Regardless of the outcome of any investigation, the best we can hope for is a lot of anti-Russia talk, imposition of sanctions, etc . . . nothing new really.
Ukraine pro-Russia, so that is a big difference, is the infiltrated Russians in Ukraine... Conclusion, it's a big mess and an external force has to be there to assure peace or else more of this situation will happen.
Even if the "rebels" are Ukraine citizens, they are still fighting on the side of Russia and with weapons provided by Russia, so the blame seems clear to me. Russia may not have to it themselves but they enabled them to do it. We'll see how much this escalated in the coming days.
Yes... I read yesterday that Russia would never have equipped that group to be able to shoot a plane out of the sky at 33,000 feet. I guess that estimation was not correct. I don't know what's going to happen (there were citizens from many countries on that plane!) but I'm pretty sure that wherever the missile came from, the shooters of it didn't realize it was a passenger plane. Fat lot of good that does those people or their families now though.
I really can't buy the ideology that they didn't know who/what they were shooting down. Even through a scope/sight you can tell the difference between a military jet and a Boeing 777 passenger plane. This was clearly an act of terror, by whom, is still to be figured out, although most fingers point towards pro-Russian Ukranian rebels.
Just read on twitter a moment ago that stocks take a plunge after that plane crash http://money.cnn.com/2014/07/17/investing/stocks-markets/index.html I don't even know what to say, with many nationalities on board, does this mean these countries will rain in hard on Russia/Ukraine?...this is sad at the same time confusing
I just recently saw that the Russians were involved with shooting the plane down, there was videos of them moving the missiles to and from the place of firing location. I think that it is absurd that they waffle around about it and try to play it off like they didn't do anything, when they most obviously did. Putin is acting very childish in my opinion.
I'm at the border with Ukraine, I saw the plane going down after something hit it. It's truly sad, and it will have international repercussions... it just can't end here, it wouldn't be conventional.
