I make less money sports better than I do on stocks. A lot less money. I don't think they are very comparable. Sports are a lot more unpredictable than stocks to me.

Sports betting is a negative sum game, stock investing is not. Based on historical average stocks rise about 8-10% per year while in aggregate you lose money when sports betting. I still do it though, it's for fun.

I prefer investing in sport stocks however occasionally I like to bet in sports but mostly if my favorite teams are playing. Rarely I win but it is gambling which includes risks.

I think these are two completely different things that require a completely different set of knowledge, pretty much anyone can do sports betting while being in the stock market requires more knowledge and money.

I think sports betting is far too risky to be compared to investing, sure stocks may fluctuate but if you play enough and have enough patience, you will eventually come out on top.
Betting however, it seems the more you play the more likely you are to lose. That's why one is called investing and the other is called gambling :)

My only dabble into stocks so far is with my employer's stock purchase plan, so obviously I have made ten-fold more in sports betting than I have in the stock game. Hoping to get more into stocks by the end of this year, but I still plan on betting on sports equally as much.

The only problem with sports betting is that people often overestimate the edge that they have. People will keep blaming their losses on bad streaks when really they're just making bad decisions. But there's plenty of money to be made betting sports. Anyone who wants to see someone who is successful, look up Haralobos Voulgaris, he's made a killing on the NBA.

Not only that Alvarez, sports betting is a matter of odds, while investing is something more based considering we have done our home work and we understand how the market works.

I like to think that I play it safe with sports betting, I have a set amount each month that I know I can afford to lose (if I lose) and only bet that much for the month. I still do my research, but I am more likely to bet money off of gut feeling than I would if I were betting my rent money, so to say.

"Look up Haralobos Voulgaris, he's made a killing on the NBA."
He's one in a million, maybe a hundred million and his life is anything but that of the calm, serene investor making short term decisions in front of his laptop.
As I understand it, Voulgaris was making 3rd and 4th Qtr TOTALS bets because the books never considered various coaches individual strategies as the game
wound down. The books inexplicably just took the 2nd half total and cut it in two! But, this was before the internet age and the day we live in where so much statistical information is at everyone's fingertips.
