Is building an option in this day and age?

I've always been a creative person and whenever I'm looking at purchasing a house, always feel that the buildings are not as great as they could be. Or somehow I would have to compromise in a way to make the building feel a bit more homely or something that I would truly love. Usually when it comes to me thinking about buying property building is usually the furthest thing from my mind. I'm sure I'm not the only one and I want to open a discussion into why is this so?

I had a home built recently - after many years of living in bought homes and other dwellings that just didn't feel 100% "right" for me personally.

I was lucky in that we found the "dream house" with everything perfectly the way I wanted it... but building was always a "plan b", just not the first choice.

I'm not sure why it wouldn't be an option... what did you mean exactly? Because of the additional cost of the land to build on? Or did I misunderstand? I think designing a home to be exactly as you want it would be a big plus for someone who's not satisfied with most of what's available in the local real estate market.

If you were to buy land say in some remote part of Texas then quite obviously you'd have to build yourself a house. It could be a lot cheaper than buying one that has already been built. However the problem always is having the ready cash to buy all building materials, pay a contractor his money and so on. That's why most people opt to get mortgages.

How long would you say that it would take to build a decent kind of property. Also how do you go about finding the right land to buy. Do a lot of banks endorse people looking to build property from scratch. We willing to finance you and trust that you will deliver a great product and at the same time be able to continue paying mortgages?

Getting financing for vacant land and for building can be trickier than for simply buying a home already built.

As for finding land, I'd check with local municipalities and homeowners' associations regarding building restrictions, taxes, etc.

If you can find a trustworthy realtor, they can be a big help. As can a builder.

I would recommend searching for a house needing some renovation with a decent location and you will surely make some profit if you are handy and can do the repairs yourself.

Building a home is the perfect solution for just about everyone if you have the time to invest in doing so. If you build it then you know it will be exactly what you want. How could buying a prefab home match that?

Buying a home is always an option, no matter the day and age.

Whether or not it's a good option or not is an entirely different matter, now isn't it?

If you find a place you like with a safe job, why not? I personally don't see myself buying a home anytime soon due to my mobile lifestyle and the fact that my career field (and most fields nowadays sadly) requires job hopping to keep getting raises/better benefits. This doesn't mean that owning a home is bad though.

If I was going to finally settle down though with a good nest egg I'd build though. More choices and if you're going to sink hundreds of thousands into a property you might as well get what you want, right?
