The IBM sell-off is potentially overdone and the disappointing earnings news could not have come at a worse time. While IBM has been talked about as a recovery stock for a decade now, changes are afoot and at least the board are looking to jettison underperforming members as they look for that perfect recipe. Tough to call the bottom but not a write-off - well not just yet!

In the short term it looks as though $130 is an important support. I would love to see the potential sum of the parts for IBM as I am sure it was well above the share price even before the recent fall.

Crashed through support at $130 and it seems as though the only way is down at the moment - I cant see from the chart where this will consolidate. Leave for now - very disappointing and very strange.

Looks as though this has been in the pipeline for a while now, hence the weakness in the IBM share price.

I dont understand why IBM has fallen sharply on the back of the deal AND competitors have fallen because of the threat from an enlarged IBM. Surely if one wins then one loses?

There seems to be a general opinion that IBM has overpaid for this latest acquisition but time will tell. Is this new deal over shadowing the sum of the parts of the businesses already part of the group?

Might be better to wait until the dust settles on this deal as the market seems to have concerns. However, surely the massive share buy back program will help?

Maybe it is time to take IBM off the market - as happened to Dell - and then look to refloat as and when there is a little more appetite. There is just no interest in IBM at the moment despite the large share buy back announcement. What else can the company do?

Finally a bounce in the share price!

If I was IBM I would be buying bucket loads at this level using the buy back funds which have been put to one side for market purchases.

My prediction - back to over $150 in the short term - def before the year end. The market seems to be warming to this new "daring" expansion strategy. We also have the buy back program picking up loose stock.
