This is a very interesting question. How long is it viable/fair to invest in a loss-making technology company?

People invested in Amazon for many years until it moved into profit. How long is a piece of string?

That means taking a huge leap of faith. It depends on how the company is set up and what potential you see in it.

It all comes down to the risk/reward factor - do the potential risks outweigh the potential rewards?

There is no hard and fast rule - look at Amazon and eBay. They were mocked in the early days as they kept ploughing profits back into the business. Just shows, some dreams do come true ;)
