If we take Tesla as an example, Elon Musk has certainly been controversial in his public and his private life. Is it bad news when chief executives outshine their company?
At the start it can be a great way to raise funds and increase the company's profile but there does come a point when the company needs to take the lead - this is often the time that founders leave.
It never tends to end well when a founder eventual leaves a company - many seem to struggle letting go!
Every director, founder, etc has a limited shelf life when the company outgrows them and they need to be replaced. Its the natural course of life - accepting this can be very very difficult for some people!
I was just about to say yes then I saw the Tesla share price $650! Elon Musk has regularly outshone the company but the shares and the company seem to be catching up. What a performance over the last few months. Under $200 a share and dead and buried - look at the shares now!

It would have been very very easy for Elon Musk to walk away form Tesla when he was being criticised all over the place - on this board as well! Instead he has hung around and proved everyone wrong - so far
Possibly but do you think Tesla would have been in a position to raise that extra capital without Elon Musk?
