In my opinion, income inequality will only get worse. Simply because many of the world's most profitable careers require access to higher education to work in. However, we are quickly moving towards a skill based economy, where those who are software engineers, statisticians, or profitable investors will reap the benefits.

This statement is completely wrong. If the free market had its way, then there would be no minimum wage, where slave wage labour and lower living standards for any not-as-well-off-financially citizen would reign just like the industrial revolution. If a country cannot afford a living wage, then it is a very poor country in terms of living standards. The human development index is the best measure of a country's wealth in my mind, i.e. how well is the human species developing in this particular country.

The matter of equal opportunity is a whole other topic, in which case, higher education would not be virtually inaccessible to those who come from a lower class family as it is in the United States right now (not to mention the cultural bias discrimination involved in equal opportunity).

Do not pursue income equality, obviously this is wrong, we've all seen communism in action. However, at the very least, we should pursue living wages... and if higher wages results in greater unemployment, let it be, because ideally it would motivate those unemployed to move into more productive areas of work for the economy. And in case you think that the corporation cannot afford to hire everyone at hire wages, I have news for you, they can, and for their employees well-being, I think they should.

Great post! However, there will never be income equality in any country you visit. You said so yourself by discussing the hierarchy of power throughout society. You can't have everyone with the exact same access to everything because how can one group dominate over another so to speak. I see it here in America with the widening gap between middle and upper class to the point of the middle class being wiped out. You have the lower income group who are almost powerless against a system set up to attack their rights as Americans. The entire reality of inequality stares us in the face. So, any reality of income equality will forever remain an illusion in the mind.

No, it is you who is wrong if you do not believe in free markets.

And notice I said "for the most part". I did not say there should be absolutely zero rules or regs.

A company like Walmart can afford to pay its workers whatever it feels like. Most small businesses don't have that luxury.

People with limited means in the US can get lots of money from the govt to go to college, trade school, or whatever, and also money to live on while doing it. There are no more excuses.

I don't know what is going on here but I do think income inequality is everywhere. There is plenty of opportunity for the rich make more money then the middle class. Although I would not want everyone being the same class either.

I do not think that income equality would be a good thing. The lazy people would stop pulling up their socks to catch up with the hardworking people since they already know that they have an income. Hardworking people would lack the motivation of working hard as they will be making as much as someone who got out of bed at noon.
