When you oversimplify things like that, it's easy to make them seem like a bad idea, isn't it?

Here's the facts. As it stands, prostitution is illegal. So if a man, or woman, beats up a prostitute, whether male or female, the victim cannot go to the police and report their crime. Why?

Because they'd be arrested for being a prostitute in the first place. So if we were to legalise it, then there would be greater protection, and help for people who do choose to go down this path. And yes, there would be the tax benefit as well, but the key issue is that when you operate outside of the law, you have no one to go to when people start treating you illegally also.

Prostitution is one of the oldest trades; I do not think that it can be completely eliminated. That is the reason why there is a debate throughout the world if prostitution should be legalized or not. It is so unfortunate when teens are involved in this kind of trade because they should be in school for a better tomorrow.

It's hard to eliminate prostitution because there will always be a need for money and a need to satisfy desire, but regulating this is something really complex.

Wow, thanks for posting this article. Didn't know anything about it. Prostitution is a tricky issue. Personally I'm for people doing what they want within reason. Prostitution legalization would likely eliminate some criminal problems but there is also going to be that public health issue with the risk of spreading diseases and such. If I were a public official I'd probably move to legalize it because the problems caused by the black market of prostitiution is worse than the prostitution itself.

I have no problem with prostitution, so long as that woman or man, has Lawfully consented to performing such a service to society. However, I am in no shape or form of belief, shall never agree that forced prostitution [whether it's adults, young adults, teens, or children] is ever okay in any society, because any human forced to do something he or she never consented to do is absolutely wrong!

The thin line of 'morality', breaks very easily, for those people whom do not withhold such a belief truly in their own hearts. But what a meaningless world humans would have, if all were to be moral, ethical, good and honorable, for every happening or thing, there shall be an opposite effect or creation; and not only one, but an infinite amount of results are possible from one single event; tis better to have volunteered prostitution, than to have a bunch of crazy immoral people violating or ravishing others without their consent, which history has many tales to tell of such insanity in humans!

Obviously I draw the line at underage prostitution. If someone is not acting on their own free will I have a huge problem with it. As someone with libertarian leanings I think people who are adults should be able to make their own decisions on most issues, including prostitution. But teenagers should not being unwillingly sold into prostitution. That's sick and morally depraved.

I agree with you completely. Legalizing prostitution would be a step in the right direction, but unfortunately, that'll probably never happen in the US because no politician wants to step out of their comfort zone. I love how some people argue that guns should be legal because that won't stop criminals and then turn around and say prostitution should NOT be legal because that won't stop human trafficking.

In the right direction? I am not so sure about that. What would legalizing prostitution mean, that it's considered a normal business? I would make an effort in finding real jobs for people doing that.

What's wrong with prostitution if all parties involved consented to it? What defines a "real" job? Why can't somebody sell sex?

I don't think there's anything worng at all. If a woman wants to do it and a man wants to pay for it (or indeed any gender combination), then why on earth not?

What would happen if there were no sex workers at all? Do you think that there would be a sharp increase in the rates of rape and other sexual offences? I strongly believe that there would be.
