    Well I never knew that....

The American agriculture industry has long been using chemicals to make the leaves fall off cotton and soybean plants just before the mechanized picking machines go into the fields. The chemical 2,4-D and its variants had been applied to U.S. acreage by either crop duster-sprayer aircraft or ground spray machines for years. But since the early '60s, the law has required applicators, sprayer pilots and ground personnel to study and pass tests before being allowed to handle or apply defoliants. They wear special coverall flight suits, boots, face masks and gloves when handling the chemicals, and are warned that the defoliant is a poison.

And we wonder why cancers etc are on the increase!!!

The part that gets me is all the hormones and antibiotics they pump into our food supply. It is a fact little girls are menstruating and growing breasts years earlier now than in the past due to so much estrogen in our food supply. Especially if they eat a lot of chicken. The animals we eat have so many antibiotics pumped into them so they don't get sick in overcrowded conditions in corporate farms that those antibiotics don't work anymore when we REALLY need them.

Don't get me started on canned tuna. The mercury content is high and we keep changing the criteria for what is considered "safe". Mercury in our food and environment is probably one of the big contributors to autism increasing at an alarming rate. I have to say "probably" because once a study shows this... the author is disgraced and the results are swept under the rug.

I am far from a conspiracy theorist that looks for the bogeyman in every shadow, but corporate greed has taken over our food supply to the detriment of our health. Perhaps it is planned that way as the dumbing-down of America continues. We need to be left smart enough to work a factory job yet dumb enough to not question authority or ponder our role in the grand scheme of things.

I think that is the primary way that governments thrive is by deception because they are not actually performing the jobs they were hired to perform. Which may explain why people are clueless, as stated by May102014. People of the world have the power to cause a great change in the world, but, they or we are not doing enough.

I still substitute teach in local public schools. The school's lunches are actually healthy. Additionally, there are no snack machines in the buildings. Snack foods are no longer sold to the lower elementary students. However, the junk students bring from home is amazing. Those students come from middle class homes. Their parents are better educated than the general public. Yet, some of the children of that community are over weight and eat junk.

I think those are good measures Allison. There aren't snack machines, they bring junk food, but that is the parent's responsibility, I send fruit and carrots to my kid for example.

Every food produced in an industrial way is a total garbage. Like chicken nuggets are made of left overs of a chicken. But those eating habits of young children should be renewed unless it is too late.

I don't think the food we have available is a problem at all - it is relatively easy to figure out exactly what is in your food if you are willing to take the time to do it and it is your choice what you eat - sure there are plenty of bad foods out there, but their are plenty of bad things out their in every category and it is your choice what you put in your body.

Come on cameron, sure that it's a problem, the world is totally polluted so the food and water absorb all that pollution, this just to start with.
