The courts in American claim that the rulings are 50/50 and they are not even close to being fair. Until they change that (which they won't) the majority of men will pretty much lose everything. This also explains why more and more women want to get married while fewer and fewer men want to get married. I've read a number of reports and articles that indicates divorce the biggest destroyer of personal wealth for adults. One stated that the average loss of wealth for each party is around 77%.

Its very serious business and entering into the marriage contract is no light thing to consider. I'm personally married, and my spouse and I are totally on the same wavelength with respect to wealth-building, so I am thankful for that.

Try to marry UP if possible. :D

And have your own lawyer have a hand in drafting the prenup themselves - have some sort of a guaranteed payout for yourself on the back end.

American men took a pounding in divorce court in the last 4 decades but American men are not stupid and found ways around this by marrying foreign girls they met in either college or the global companies they work for. Guys my age that did this are many times on their 2nd or 3rd marriage but thousands and thousands of smart young American men out there that have seen what happened to their buddies and their dads in divorce court are not taking the risk and making their first and only wife a foreign girl that is well educated and values a good husband and family. It's gone from the Mail order Bride stigma to a husband and wife that both have good degrees are multi lingual and make 6 figures salaries, making them some of the wealthiest couples in America.

Hm the opinions in this thread is really varied. So theres always an nonfinancial toll a divorce takes on anyone. I imagine someone you loved and trusted enough to marry turning on you could have so mental drawbacks? Maybee trust issues or negative feelings towards the opposite sex? I can't say for sure since I've never had a divorce, therefore hoping to get insight from ones who have/

Agreed with this. In this day and age, you really need a solid prenup. I get how some wouldn't want to enter into said due to religious reasons, but, still, the divorce rate is hovering around the 50% mark.

So do you guys have a theory at why it's so high? Do Americans think marriage is a joke or has the attitude changed? I know when I was a kid, I always heard divorce was great because you could leave when you wanted to. Doesn't that kinda contradict the "for better or worse" part?

Life has gotten so complicated, and we live in such a "me" society that it just seems unlikely that any 2 people will stay together for life anymore.
