2015 has seen the emergence of the term "Regressive Leftists", and prominent Liberals such as Bill Maher and Sam Harris, as well as lesser-known online personalities like Dave Rubin, have commented on the Liberal blindspot in regards to Islamic Terrorism. We've seen Political Correctness under the microscope as public figures such as Chris Rock and Jerry Seinfeld have publicly aired their opposition to PC mindsets on college campuses in the US--campuses where we witnessed a string of protests fueled by "grievances" stemming from children who want to make their university a "safe and inclusive space". Even South Park got into the act this season, viciously targeting PC culture in their latest season. We've also witnessed fissures along racial and cultural lines in the US with the emergence of Black Lives Matter protests--which conveniently ignore rampant violence committed by their own demographic in favor of demonizing whites generally and the police specifically--as well as in Europe over the Refugee Crisis, where media and politicians flagrantly ignore the growing concerns of citizens that feel threatened by the huge influx of un-vetted migrants (meanwhile they're puzzled over the surge in popularity of Right-leaning politicians such as Donald Trump in the US and the UKIP pols in the UK). I know that personally I've felt unplugged from the Matrix, and it's been like an out-of-body experience watching fellow Leftists complain about issues concerning race, gender, and foreign policy from grossly misinformed and emotionally-driven points of view. I now know why Conservatives and Right-wingers refer to these people as "Libtards". What do you all think? Will 2015 go down in history as the point where Leftists completely dropped the ball?
Both parties have the same problem. The Republican party has a good portion that wants to go far right and now we see the Democratic starting to move further left. Will a third, more moderate party form...?
The whole leftist PC movement has swung so far out of control in recent years that we were bound to see a serious backlash eventually.
I don't know about the US situation but I'd say that the leftists dropped the ball in Europe a long time ago. 2015 is just the year when the general public started to notice it.
Having grown up a "60's Liberal", I watched with wonder as the Democrat Party in the US kept drifting further left and leaving me behind. As I matured (aged) I found myself much more conservative, both fiscally & socially, though I'd probably best label myself a Libertarian. As JR Ewing suggests: "The whole leftist PC movement has swung so far out of control in recent years that we were bound to see a serious backlash eventually." We're witnessing that backlash now...
I agree--I began to unplug from the Matrix in 2014 (I consider myself a Liberal...though now I'm not even sure if I qualify. Took my political compass, seems I'm more Liberal/Libertarian). I'm only 33, but I'm seriously appalled at all the craziness that exploded this year. I've been predicting via social media that there's going to be a HUGE backlash against all this nonsense. Predictably, I've been criticized and shunned for daring to speak against this nonsense. Most of these people don't even realize that they are part of the problem.
