Whenever I hear of such records, I know there will be people who will want to break them but it's an achievement nonetheless. It took the women 68 days to row across the Atlantic but their voyage was not without incident . . . http://www.theguardian.com/sport/2016/feb/26/yorkshire-rows-atlantic-crossing-record They were lucky to make it out alive.
These types of achievements do inspire people t do things, but age should never come into things and it does annoy me that people do make an issue of it. These women had a quest, had the time to train and also to to do it. Not all people have that luxury of time of finances. I'm sure it has bonded them even further beyond coffee mornings.
I find this remarkable not because of their ages, but I can not imagine wanting to row across the Atlantic. That strikes me as being incredibly terrifying and dangerous. It is an achievement and an accomplishment for sure...but for me, putting yourself in harms way to accomplish a goal is not super smart. Maybe they had a boat following them or something, I don't know the specifics.
While it's obviously quite a remarkable achievement, it's not exactly something that anybody could do. They would have to have been in a certain social standing should we say, to be able to decide one day that they had nothing better to do, then try and break this record. I know quite a few women their age that would have loved the opportunity to do something like that. Unfortunately for them though they had to carry on working 2 jobs, looking after their children and trying to keep a roof over their heads.
Wow, that's such an amazing accomplishment for them. Congratulations to Niki, Helen, Frances and Janette! They did not just row to prove their stamina, they did this to raise money for a cancer care centre in Leeds. That's truly admirable especially since they have won and raised more awareness for the cause. Their children and family must be so proud as well! I hope they can conquer more oceans in the future. And maybe raise more awareness for such noble causes. Good luck to them in their future endeavours!
While I'm not degrading their achievements, a lot of people give thousands of dollars a year to charities and good causes anonymously, so while what these women did was very admirable, they didn't do it solely for the charity concerned don't forget, they did it to get their names in the spotlight.
This is an achievement not many people get to do and I admire these women for being able to do it. They also had a good cause for it so that makes it even more notable for them. Whatever their real reasons are for doing such a remarkable achievement, what matters is that they enjoyed their journey and they were able to make it through even with a hurricane along their way.
