Is the pornography industry responsible for lowering the moral conduct of Americans. Since the 1970's it has been illegal to import porn into the U.S., so the pornography industry is actually one of the few industries which is protected against foreign competition. Primarily based in California, porn generates $13.3 billion per year for our economy. My question is, is it worth it? Are we paying more than we realize? Moral decay has vanquished civilizations before, and history has a way of repeating itself.

What exactly is moral decay ? How did you measure this moral decay ? How exactly did you determine this is linked to pornography ?

Fax machines started to become a regular item in offices after 1970. Personally I think fax machines can be linked to most forms of moral decay. Or maybe it was caused by electronic calculators and digital watches, both of these items appeared after 1970.

Ban fax machines, electronic calculators and digital watches.

I must agree that it is causing moral decay to our society. Children brought up at the moment are exposed to adult matters that they should not know about before they are older. Parents also shy away from talking to their kids so they reach their own conclusions from the things that they see on the internet. The internet can be accessed in the remotest areas through mobile phone that kids carry today. It is unfortunate to think about the new generation that is coming into existence.

I would say that the internet is not helping family relationships at all for the most part. Porn aside, there are now so many social media outlets out there that it makes people do things that they would have not done before. People talking to people they have talked to in years and some of the memories discussed could lead to someone else in a relationship get hurt. It is way more easy for people to hide what they are doing now, and online flirting and other things like this have become a big issue. I just read an article about how Facebook is ruining relationships, and sad to say that it could be true.

Pornography will always be around, no matter what governments will try to do. Having said that, I do thing pornagraphy gives young men (and maybe some women) unrealistic expectations of sex and I think people should abstain from it.

Moral decay has been there since the world was formed, its only that the devil has hit the accelerator quite hard and we are on the way down a very steep slope with no hope of a comeback :)...as things advance over the years, so does moral decay, if we ever clock the year 2030...morals will just be another name in the book...just my $0.02.

I don't think pornography is the reason behind this, mostly because porn has been around for so long that society didn't even try to bother with it. A huge influence is the fact that kids think the sex from porn is what happens in reality.

There was an article on CNN Sunday about teens watching porn and how it doesn't really affect them at all as long as adults discuss it with them. Not the porn itself, but just that porn is more along the lines of a fantasy instead of how things really happen. My husband and I enjoy watching porn together and I don't think that it makes us morally corrupt people or anything.

It all depends on how you think about it. Some people do believe that it corrupts a person's thinking and I completely agree with it in some way or the other. But some people also consider it as fun and I think it in their world it is OK for them to think so.

It's not the porn industry that corrupted people. Before the age of the net, porn wasn't available to a lot of people but American society's morals had already dropped to an all-time low in the 90s. So IMO it's not porn that is to blame for society's moral decay. The media is responsible [for that].
