Yes, they are mostly close-minded, they are not willing to accept any form of deviation or diversion in relation to their strong religious convictions. However, this is not a unique attribute, persons of other varying beliefs tend to portray similar behaviour. Persons promoting political beliefs would be a good example.

It really just depends on the person, the religion they choose to follow, and what their mindset is about how involved that religion should be in their lives.

I think different religions try to have a different hold over people, their lives, and their minds. Some of those can definitely have a negative impact on the way that the followers look at the outside world and people who think differently than they do.

I really don't think so. Religious people have a strong faith so they can't be swayed to other concepts or ideas. That's the reason why people perceive them as close minded. However, we cannot generalize. They may be close minded when it comes to religion, but not to other things.

I agree with you. Most religious people are very close minded when it comes to their religion, but not necessarily in other matters of their lives. In fact, nobody in this world is completely close minded. The term 'close minded' always accompanies the phrase 'with respect to'.

On the flip side, though, for religious people, more often than not, religion governs most of the aspects of their lives. And since religious people, in general, are very opposed to any ideas, however rational or practical they may be, that go against their own religious doctrines, they appear close-minded with respect to a whole lot of issues than a non-religious secular person generally is. And I think that part of their lifestyle gives off an impression of close-mindedness.
