I used to use Datek Online quite some time ago. I'm not even sure if it is still around. I see that Ameritrade and Etrade and the like are still around. Which ones seem to be the best for a beginner to get started trading with? Has anyone had any experiences, good or bad with any of the online brokers? Any recommendations?

Millions of threads everywhere about this, baudwalk has a good one there. But as always it comes down to personal preference, some people just prefer different things. Just make sure it's a trustworthy one and the fees aren't too high.

Yes, I think you would have to read reviews of all the online brokers, and get some positive word of mouth before settinling on one. It just would be something that could be difficult so getting one that is worth your time and attention, and most of all your money is important to do.

The best online stock brokerage firm is Fidelity. They have 1.6 million customers and an asset base of 1.56 trillion, testament of its good reputation. Like its closest competitors, it offers a flat rate in its commission trade structure. Fidelity carries out research and innovation to be ahead in the market and have a new stock screening feature. Their customer service is great and they operate a desk and a web platform. The latter offers quite a good user experience and is quite navigable.

The best brokers charge less fee and have very low spreads. Also, look at how fast the trading platform is and how often there is slippage. Some brokers can kill you with requotes and slippages. When the broker's server is fast, there will be less requotes and slippages. Try a broker with high speed execution. Forex is easier when you use a good Forex broker. I prefer trading with Profiforex
