Israeli Prime Minister is to hold talks in London next month. Many Brits who are certain Netanyahu has committed war crimes [killing 2,000 civilians in Gaza last year] want him arrested upon arrival. To pressure their government into doing that, the Brits have been signing a petition calling for the government to arrest Netanyahu. So far more than 26,000 people have signed the petition. Should they get 100,000 signatures the petition must be considered by the UK parliament for debate. It's waste of time though. No one will be arresting Netanyahu.
Wow I did not realize that he was accused of this. THis was something we havent heard about here. It is just one of the things that we need to listen to on the BBC I think. I am not sure that we have seen this on our news. I did not pay attention to it if I did. It is one of the options that you can use when you are looking forward to. It is just one of the things that you may need.
Theres an alarming amount of anti semitism in the west. This another example of that. You have take the view that Netanyahu is a war criminal then youve list the right to be taken seriously.
Well as the OP said, it's a complete waste of time to even consider this. He is a politician and comes from a friendly country so he has nothing to fear. So yeah, just one more ridiculous petition that no one takes seriously.
Yeah, let us not forget that many countries also considered Bush a war criminal. Honestly, I do not see it as anti-semetism as much as I think people are just sick of Israel acting like a little brother with a big mouth. There is an 8 year old with a big mouth who taunts and harrasses neighbors and then when he is about to get hit, he runs onto the porch and hides behind his older brother. Well, once the older brother gets punched enough times, he is going to finally tell the younger brother to shut up and fight his own battles. Israel has been far too cocky for the last 30 years because they know the west will back them up no matter what they do... well.. now the west is telling them to knock it off. If Israel actually thought they had to defend themselves (without the USA), they would be much less aggressive, aggravating and would instigate less skirmishes. It would be great if the USA and West would push the little brother off the porch now and then.
Agreed. And the UK and much of Europe have become eaten up with rather radical muslim immigrants in recent years.
It is disturbing how leaders of powerful countries commit war crimes and just walk but when 3rd world country leaders do the same, everybody unites and calls for their head. Double standards? I don't think what the Israelites have done against the Palestinians is justice.
Well, that's politics. All is fair in love and in war. And since Israel is considered to be at war with Palestine, then that act cannot be considered a crime. It just depends on where you sit. And with those protests, even a million signature will not mean anything as far as the issue is concerned - the truth will always depend on whose eyes are looking at it. I really wonder why some people would meddle in the problems of other countries, it's only the US who is a meddler, right?
I should point out that anti-Semitism is hatred of the Semites, meaning Jews. It is not anti-Semitic to have serious misgivings about crimes against humanity. Another mass grave filled with Palestinian children was found recently. Israel have been accused of crimes against humanity a great many times, but have been thus far protected by the US veto in the United Nations. I would be concerned about any nation that acts the way Israel does. To correct the poster above the myself, Israel does consider itself at war and with Palestine and there are rules to war set out in the Geneva convention, so they can be tried for crimes. We have our 100,000 signatures here in the uk. I am one of them
