Our country is being pushed into a socialist big govt controlled state that is infested with leftist propaganda and the rule of what they deem to be political correctness.

This is kinda a myth about our country. This belief that things are worse now than they ever were. If you read biographies of the founding fathers as well as most important people in the 1800s, it has ALWAYS been like this. We just gloss over it because of patriotism. Remember, people used to duel to the death because of ideological differences. There were intense fights in the very beginning about the role of the federal goverment. For 40-50 years there were intense fights about slavery, and most of the states that exist today were carved out mainly because of their stance on slavery. North Dakota and South Dakota are separate states solely because when they became states they were free states, and it was better to have 2 free states than 1 free state for votes in congress.

There were always special interests that ruled what congress did. In fact, the 2nd Amendment was mainly created because Thomas Jefferson pushed so hard for it because he was scared to death of the being hanged by the British for treason. He wanted every person between the coast and his house to have a gun.

As far as the OP. I do think things have changed because of social media and 24 hour news. In the past, Presidents had a much easier time using the bully pulpit because they were the only ones with the bully pulpit. Now you have a lot of people who can be very influential just because they have a microphone. Jon Stewart, Rush etc. It really brings the President down to the level of us mortals. I think that is one of the reasons Obama was so popular during the election.. he kinda went back to JFK era and had some movie star qualities for a few months.

It precisely means that they are bad, in my opinion. A group of people deceiving tonreach an outcome they predetermine to be best for a mass population of people is downright shameful. We already know it happens, and it's sad to see that our democratic system is a farce. It's nothing more than a popularity contest to become the face of a country, and has much less to do with voting for policy changes and progression.

Susimi- Ah, you're thinking like Hegel. I agree. Conflict is where humanity tends to shine. We work better under the threat of extermination especially. Just think about how many utilities we take for granted were developed as the result of war. I ean, the Romans built the Appian Way to defeat the Samnites. Communism would require everyone to be completely content with their lot in life, which never actuallly happens. Anyone who gets greedy will ruin the system completely. Its the biggest flaw and even Karl Marx would asmit that in order for communism to take hold, one would have to go back in time and change the outlook of man kind. Things would be a lot more peaceful, but we would probably still be at the very beginning of the middle ages at this point, as progress would go far slower.

Having recently discovered philosophy, I find it fascinating that the Greeks back in the day were dealing with the same issues, and trying to figure it out. Cultures change, civilizations change, customs change, but people, fundamentally, do not and have not. That must always be taken into consideration.

Our governments have been getting out of hand and I think they're forgetting what a free country really is. Some laws or rules are pretty ridiculous now and that's the way it is. Honestly, none of the candidates really appeal to me and that slightly terrify's me. With everything that's happening in the world like war, we really need a smart president and, like NOW!
