To work as a stock broker, one must have a degree in a related field (finance, accounting, etc.), pass the Series 7 examination, and, possibly depending on the state, pass the Uniform Securities Agents State Law Examination and the Uniform Advisor Law Examination. I'd say that some investment.

I've posted up a good bit of info on being a broker in the "Stock Market Education" subforum. The biggest challenge is pulling in enough money from enough investors to invest for them. And it's also a very heavily regulated industry with lots of rules you have to follow in order to keep your job. The turnover rate in big firms is quite high - the majority of people aren't able to gather enough assets to meet company production hurdles, and even then many don't gather enough assets (above what the companies require) to make a very good living at it. It can be tough. The key to getting hired is to convince the principal(s) of the firm that you're likely to bring in lots of money to the firm.
Being a broker should be fascinating, but it's pretty much like JR says, we need to have the money or else we are out of business. Once we are installed it's a dream job I agree!
I think it's probably incredibly stressful, it has it's advantages and downsides like every other job, but handling large sums of someone else's money would make me very nervous...
I think that being a stock broker would be a really interesting job, although I'm not sure if I would be able to take the stress!!!
It would be really interesting to work as a stock broker. Allthough I would be shitting myself all the time for handling other peoples money.
It is a very tough environment, with lots of pressure to provide your clients with good trading ideas and to meet your targets for new business. If you are good though, the earning potential is high.
