    Charlie Munger, the vice-chairman of Berkshire Hathaway, has been talking about the difficulties which stock pickers have been experiencing during the current eight year bull market. This is a subject we have covered over the last couple of weeks, the fact that it is proving extremely difficult to cherry pick the best performing stocks and sectors compared to indices which continue to move higher.

    Munger definitely knows his stuff.

    I remember seeing one of the great bottom-up value-oriented mutual fund managers had something like 80-85% cash in his portfolio several years ago - because he wasn't finding anything that met his strict criteria.

    The key to stock picking is having patience as it can be easy to buy for buying sake if you are struggling to find a stock. Lets face it, it doesnt take many "good" stock picks a year to outperform the indices and bank some good money. Easier said than done but there is still a place for stock pickers.
