Stunning that Dell has the capacity to buy another company for 70B, it's a big giant and will continue to rule for decades!

I'll be honest I'm pretty surprised to see Dell being such a big player in the market. I thought they had got knocked back a bit by other companies offering competitive stuff.

I had a Dell computer some years back and while I did not like it that much, it's pretty good to see that the company is going strong, and stronger than ever it seems.

There's been more in the news about this today. They've passed the FTC and EU anti-trust regulators, so the merger is on track. Dell's figures didn't look so good when it had to file them in March for the next stage of the takeover but more recently it seems there are two private equity groups now involved to supply funds. I don't have details, so if anyone knows anymore, please share.

If the latest news is right though, the combined Dell/EMC group will be privately held, with VMware as its own publicly listed company, and several of Dell's non-core groups spun off into separate firms. What gets spun-off isn't confirmed yet as far as I can find out, but it looks as though the new business might be focusing mainly on the enterprise side, where EMC is excellent and Dell is doing well.

I was surprised a deal of this size wasn't scrutinized more closely to be honest, or at least the monopolies commission had something to say about it.

This is a massive deal that is going to worry a lot of people in that sector of industry, that's for sure anyway, and it will be intriguing to see how this one ends up.
