There ought to be another tribunal to favor the landlords then...although in my case scenario, i fall in both areas, am a tenant and yet a landlady...so i don't know where it'd be more befitting for me
This seems like a suitable law for the protection of the landlord. Any tenants who seem to think that it's suitable or okay for him to skip out halfway through the lease for non justifiable reason should of course have to pay double the rent or pay some type of compensation to the landlord. It's not the landlord's fault that the tenant decided that they wanted to turn or change the structure of the lease, I'm sure some landlords would be able to adhere to if they were in the military or if they had some type of family circumstance but I think that paying double the rent seems plausible in the case of it being a judgement against the possible tenant.
