Since November 13, France has closed 3 mosques and plans are underway for the closure of 100-160 mosques which authorities believe foster extremism. This, those who oppose the planned action say will not prevent people from being radicalized and would instead heighten a sense of alienation among France's Muslim minority. Maybe the rest of the world can learn from France if closing down mosques does help in the fight against terrorism.

You can read more about it all here:

Naturally this will cause a backlash, but in France it has always been tension between the Algerians and the French. However, in the interests of national security they can do what they want because those in charge of the mosques may not be cooperating so there is no choice.

Whether other countries will follow suit, it is hard to say, but the building of new mosques is often greeted with suspicion.

I wonder what Muslims in France say to the closing of the mosques. I am not a Muslim but if I were then probably I would raise my voice. That's what the political analysts were saying - the jihadist or Muslim extemists are destroying the religion they are professing. Their terroristic actions cannot be attributed solely to ISIS because they represent their religion. Therefore, the killings is for their religion. Now, the backlash is the non-Muslims now are doing something to protect themselves, in effect, a discrimination against Muslims.

The issue for me though, is that the so called peaceful Muslims, the ones that have got power aren't coming out and saying anything at all.

When was the last time you heard a Muslim cleric, a person that's looked up to in the local Muslim community denounced ISIS and what they stand for?

Have any come out and admitted that Muslims are being indoctrinated into a radical way of life and they need to stop it at the ground level, in these mosques and price religious schools that are springing up everywhere?

I think I recall some reports in the UK of clerics denouncing ISIS and saying it is not a part of what they see Islam as, but then I could be wrong.

I have some mixed views about the closing down of the mosques. It could do much more harm than good in the long game and it may cause more tensions to rise with the result of some muslims feeling the need to go down the ISIS route in revenge.

Might a better idea be to conduct secret investigations at all mosques and if any are found to be linked to teaching extremist views to then shut them down? It would be a long investigation however.

We'll see how that plays out. I'm sure the muslims won't take too kindly to that.

Hey, I think you need to do what has to be done to protect your people. If they have reason to believe these people are plotting against their citizens I think they have the right to take the steps they feel are necessary to protect their citizens. If that hurts innoccent citizens, well they can find another mosque.

Extremely bold. Personally I am on the fence about this maneuver, but at the same time if the Muslims in France are complaining about feeling alienated, they have themselves to blame; from much of the reports I've seen, they are notoriously resistant to assimilation.

Of course the Leftist media will cover this as an act of the worst kind of "Islamophobia".

Simple thing that once again people overlook. The mosques that have been closed are known to be dealing with extremists. The mosques weren't just closed, they were raided by the police. France is finally starting to crack down on the targets that their intelligence agencies have been finding for years already. Hundreds of people arrested and something like 300 or was it 400 illegal weapons (some from these mosques) seized since the attacks in Paris.
