JR has a point. If the US had planned a politically correct war, then they shouldn't have went there in the first place. However, Obama has made some wise moves in middle eastern relations, because in a war situation, it's not smart to be totally ignorant and disrespectful of the enemy's culture.

It hardly matters who is to blame for the rise of ISIS. There are some people who think Israel also had a hand in the creation of ISIS. Thing though is right now what the U.S and others must focus on is how to defeat ISIS but since it's unlikely that Syria and Iraq will know peace any time soon, even after ISIS is defeated some other group will take their place.

What "wise moves" has Obama ever made on ME foreign policy?

In a war situation, the object is to win - to defeat and destroy your enemy by whatever means necessary. Being ignorant or disrespectful of the enemy's "culture" is not something to be at all concerned with - you blow stuff up, take things over, and kill whoever you have to to win in war. You wait to be "nice" to civilians in enemy territory once you're confident your enemy has been destroyed.

It's usually pretty obvious to me who has and has not served in the military when these topics are discussed.

I have to agree and the fact you are in a foreign country fighting a war in the first place means that you don't care to much about the culture of that particular country.

At the end of the day, if your at war, there can't be these rules of engagement and in the UK we have soldiers now that are awaiting trial for so called crimes committed in a combat environment because the rules of engagement weren't followed.

The question that seems to be ignored is what would have happened if these soldiers hadn't have done what they did? Surely if it's a case of kill or be killed, the only rule is to make sure that you keep yourself and fellow soldiers safe?
