Well now that we are happily well into 2015, let's take a look at what happened in 2014. How did you do overall? What were your biggest successes or worst losses? Did you learn something from them? Did you meet your goals for the year?

I'm fairly satisfied with my 2014. My European portfolio took a few nasty hits... though it's not a big wonder since I did exceptionally well the year before mainly due to one volatile stock gaining huge percentages. I managed to sell part of them in time, but kept some. For my north american portfolio... it was actually the first full year and I'm quite pleased with the results. Slow but solid growth in most of the companies which I own... quite a few of them obviously surpassing my expectations. A couple of dark clouds in there... mainly Ubiquity and Norther Properties REIT but I learned a thing or two from these events and I still see both of them as worth keeping in the long run.

I did reach my goal of X amount of dividends during the year, though I wasn't too far ahead of my objectives.

2014 was ok to me, not in terms in investment because I haven't really started, but I have learned a lot in the past months, so I feel that 2015 will be the year I will start investing.

I actually did pretty well in 2014. The early part of the year was a little bumpy, but the second have was quite solid. Here's hoping 2015 is at least as prosperous.

    Up slightly.

I was up BIG going into Q4, but the energy selloff hit that portion of my portfolio pretty good. I took some profits and increased put options on energy and other more volatile holdings in early Oct, but I still felt it.

I did very well with a number of biotech holdings like Gilead and other more speculative names. Also did well with some tech holdings like the big position in Apple and others like Micron Tech. Other tech holdings like Google and smaller positions in Netflix were pretty flat, while small positions Amazon and especially GTAT cost me there on the long side.

I just started to invest towards the end of 2014 so I made a lot of rookie mistakes. Even now, I still feel overwhelmed at times with this whole world of "investing". But honestly, I love it. Research, research, and a little more research is my hope to avoiding some key early investor mistakes in 2015.

But to answer, my 2014 was quite ugly. It seemed, I bought everything at a high price in November. Amazon, Apple, and Imax. Oh well, here is to a better 2015!

As long as you learn from your mistakes then it's not so bad. And if you bought these for the long term then it doesn't really matter if the price is a bit lower at the moment. :)

Overall 2014 was marginal, I had some gains but nothing astounding. Definitely better then 2013 which left me struggling. In 2014 I was at least able to pay down some debt and still keep afloat without much worry. I changed my budget and did find some windfall. All in all it could be better, but I am not complaining. 2015 Is the year to toss out the old stuff that is under performing, take a look at the critical must have expenses and make a decision if that's where my money should really be. Until tax time I am going to remain super conservative as far as investments.

I am not to keen on what lays ahead for tax season, I also am watching what the fed will do as far as additional fuel tax. Living in New York we already are taxed to death for gasoline, hate to see this get even worse. It always looks promising in the winter for fuel, then in the spring, WHAM... the price jacks up overnight.

2014 was the best year for me in my very short investment life, 2013 was the worst, the value of my portfolio fell by a whopping 30%, but thanks to good dividend payout, I was able to offset those loses against the fall in share price. I think that I have some pretty good ideas going forward in 2015 but um, it takes money to make more money so right now, I'm currently seeking ways to do that, as for the stock market :) I'll always be active in that! :)

I don't have a huge sum of money to invest, so for me, the whole thing is practically just for fun, but I did have a good year. I've managed to increase the value of my portfolio by 14.38%. It's well over the average, but I was lucky to catch a couple of breaks, although I did also get burned by the USD/Eur exchange rate.
