ISIS leader, Baghdadi, released a video asking all Muslims to join him in Iraq and Syria. http://www.cbc.ca/news/trending/mus...urce=fark&utm_medium=website&utm_content=link Though many Muslims gave different excuses why they wouldn't join the group I doubt anyone would be foolish enough to publicly declare that they'll be joining the group. So who knows if this worked?
I saw this on the news yesterday and just had to laugh at how he said it. Good on the guy. Is it me is can anyone else detect a little bit of desperation in the message of a call to arms? Could we be seeing the first signs that ISIS is on the way to being defeated?
It reminds me of the Iran-Iraq war when, in the early stages of that conflict, there was a huge pool of willing suicide bombers ready to go to their death. The problem was, that pool dried up pretty quickly, and as a marketing concept trying to sell willful annihilation to a skeptical audience is a pretty hard gig.
As someone who personally enjoys wit, I appreciated their answers. They were definately desperate, which should tell us that it won't be long before we have to get rid of all of our "Down with ISIS" merchandise and start stockpiling our "Down with (Insert Name of the Next Extremist Group to Fill the Power Vacuum Left by ISIS Here)".
Late last year when ISIS was still quite strong, there were volunteer suicide bombers were complaining that nepotism was being used to select who would be getting strapped with some explosives. So eager to die they were. Much has changed since then. No one gets 72 virgins and a ticket to Paradise if they are killed by the enemy. I suppose that's why they don't have too many people willing to blow themselves up. It certainly is the clearest indication that the tide is turning against ISIS. As long as we continue to ruthlessly pummel them from all sides even though the savages aren't defeated, they'll be so degraded that they won't be that a huge threat anymore.
I agree that this may be a clear indication that there is a chink in the ISIS armour. As time is progressing more and more people are getting to know what ISIS is really about and it's putting many potential recruits off of them, which is a great thing because as well as pounding them we are also beginning to win over the hearts and minds of the very people they are trying to recruit.
I do feel the Muslim community know they must do more to prevent those being radicalized, so that they can live with some peace in a mixed community. With so many acts of terror, it's apparent that what ISIS represented a couple of years ago is no longer the same. Hopefully those who see this will ensure others will not join.
Part of the problem is that even ex-radicals or ex-Muslims that speak out about what you wrote (such as Majiid Nawaz or Sarah Haider) they are shouted down by OTHER Muslims as "Uncle Toms" or "coconuts". Meanwhile there are towns in Europe such as Malmo where even moderate Muslims are beginning to flee their homes because they fear the radical element seeping into their communities. I think this will all get worse before it gets better.
The problem on the ground is that the military forces of ISIS know it is a fraud. The ´leaders´ of ISIS are living the good life in Europe, selling oil and getting rich. Like many ´religious´ wars, the leaders only use religion to get cheap soldiers. It is no different than when Constantine used Christians to sack Rome.
Well, Star Wars is really good! And fighting, and possibly getting killed kinda sucks! So, I can completely understand wanting to watch Star Wars instead of fighting against the US military, the Russian military, NATO, Iarael and whoever else!
