Netflix is thinking of broadening it's programming. No longer will subscribers watch only movies and TV series on the site. They'll be getting news, too. http://fortune.com/2015/10/15/netflix-news/ While, yeah the idea was merely floated and denials of sorts followed the "leak," what do you think would happen if Netflix got into the news business? What impact would it have on the company and its stock?
Personally if I was Netflix I'd stick to what they do best. They're already making a very good profit so I don't see any other reason to get involved in other areas other than greed. Sometimes too much can be a bad thing, and I think Netflix would do very nicely just sticking to what they know.
I agree with pwarbi. The company should stick to what it does well. Netflix dropped yesterday on a mediocre earnings report. It seems USA results were flat at best (overseas grew). Actually, some pundits suggest Netflix may be near its zenith. I heard, somewhere, the forthcoming iteration of Apple TV may significantly impact the other streaming services, given the number of customers locked into the iOS ecosystem.
I'm pretty much in agreement with the above two posts. Netflix should really stick to what they are doing and what is working for them. As the saying goes, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it!" However I cannot help but wonder how it would effect them to broadcast their own news and my thoughts are that it might be a small success for them. It doubt it will generate a massive increase for them like I can't see people signing up just to view their news shows, but I can see people who have already signed up just checking out the news in-between watching stuff perhaps.
I don't know why they would want to get into the news business. There are enough news outlets out there. If they want to improve on and expand something about their company they should get better movies on the site. MOst of their movies are like B grade movies that no one really wants to see. Netflix used to have a great movie selection and no their selection is just pitiful. Improve on what you have, before you try expanding.
