Well, the Trumpster administered another crushing defeat to the others in the field. He received, as of this writing, 42.9% of the vote in Nevada. Rubio and Cruz came in 25.2% and 20.4%, respectively. Carson and Kasich were both in single digits. He's on a roll. One might even say ...
In the recent Nevada primaries of the Democrats, Hillary Clinton got the better of Bernie Sanders. In the South Carolina primaries, Donald Trump got 42% against the 22% of Ted Cruz and Marco Rubio. So what do we have now? Do you think the others can still catch up with Trump and Hillary? By the way, Jeb Bush just declared that he is quitting the race. Well, there's still a lot of time to change things and I'm sure the also rans are thinking one way or another of quitting or throwing their support to another candidate.
It does look like people expect; a Trump versus Clinton race. The irony is that he was once a Democrat. I'm not sure how seriously Trump takes it all, because if he loses he just carries on playing golf, whereas the others have to salvage a political career.
It is a shame in my opinion, but it looks like the end race will be Trump Vs Hillary and I am not impressed with either of them. This will be the first election in a long time in which I am not a strong supporter of a candidate. It is going to be a weird next 4 years.
Yeah, I know...I can not believe in this great country of ours we can not do better than polarizing figures like Trump and Hillary. Electing either of them is just going to ensure we will have gridlock in Congress for years to come. I just don't believe it. I find it really disheartening. I wish Joe Biden would have run.
Biden was scared of losing to Clinton and taking into account what he'd been through he probably wasn't ready to deal with that too. Last year a voter who didn't like any of the presidential candidates wrote a letter to the Queen of England asking her to take back the U.S. Things aren't getting any better as some who would better leaders [than Trump and Clinton] drop out.
It is troubling. While there are aspects of the Trump candidacy I can appreciate (e.g., he speaks his mind, he's accomplished in the business world, he's one of the few candidates that is serious about border security, etc.), there are other aspects that are a big negative. I also have my doubts he can win in a general election. That said, few thought he'd get this far, so, we'll see. I'd take him over a pathological liar, socialist, and crook like Hillary any day of the week, but that sort of goes without saying.
If Trump cleans up next week, on Super Tuesday, March 1st, he's pretty much going to run away with it. Ted Cruz and Marco Rubio have to win some states. Cruz absolutely has to win his home state of Texas to justify staying in the race. Otherwise, he is finished. Rubio will be able to stay in until March 15th, when the Florida primary is, regardless of what happens next week. Even then, he's probably still an underdog in his home state to Trump.
Agreed on all those points, gmckee1985. I would imagine Cruz is going to do well in Texas. Ditto, to some extent, Rubio in Florida. I have a hard time believing Kasich has any real shot at winning a state, other than Ohio. And Carson, well, it is getting pretty embarrassing. He's a good man and might make a fine Surgeon General, but it just isn't happening for POTUS.
It does look like a Trump versus Hillary ending is in the works. I'm not sure I like that season finale. Trump made statements years ago about how he would run as a Republican even though he's a Democrat because it would be easy for him to win that way if he did. Hillary is a Democrat who acts like a Republican when it comes to being funded by the highest bidder. There's almost no distinction between the differences except for what one says they run as while the other says they run differently. Behind closed doors, it's the same group and the same game.
