The proposed laws supposedly: a) Restricts the right to marry to people of faith only. It means atheists who wish to get married would either have to become Christians or leave the State if they want to get married. b) The law would bar all judges and other "secular" figures from performing marriages. c) All marriages licenses would have to be approved by a member of the clergy, most of whom oppose same sex marriages. Much as the proposed law won't be passed, dismiss not the probability of the government at one time passing such laws or even making it illegal to be an atheist. It's only a matter of time . . .
If that is how it is written, it does not have a prayer (no pun intended) of surviving judicial review. Who has introduced this legislation? Where can we read the text?
This is just ridiculous! I do wonder if this is some sort of anti-gay initiative, designed to stop them from getting married? I notice that the state appealed against the initial ruling, which allowed gay marriages, but this was thrown out and deemed unconstitutional.
I don't know who has the brilliant idea to create these absurd laws. So people can't marry now if they have a certain faith? But why? Don't they have some serious job to do instead of this?
Do you have a link to this? I'm skeptical that such a law is actually being proposed - particularly by the entire Republican OR Democrat legislature of an entire state. If such a law is in fact being proposed, I'd guess it's something put out by a single crackpot that doesn't stand a chance at passing.
I wouldnt worry too much about a law like this actually passing. I dont think it would stand up in front of judicial scrutiny. Regardless of where you stand on the gay marriage issue, I think most folks can agree that this law is over the top and unnecessary.
Here's the link to the article. http://www.patheos.com/blogs/progre...ants-to-restrict-marriage-to-people-of-faith/
I believe that that is a bunch of nonsense, it is actually discriminating on those who do not have faith in a certain thing, yet at the same talken we say that we have freedom to religion, yet it seems as though those without faith will have to suffer if this law is passed, but most likely, I doubt that it will be passed.
These crackpots need to be recalled and put out to pasture. They don't do themselves or their entire parties any service with such nonsense.
Whatever happened to the land of the free? Last I checked there was supposed to be a separation of church and state. A marriage in its most basic form is a legal government document that legal binds 2 people together. I doubt this would ever become a law
