I just recently bumped into a blog where the author shared her experience regarding copyright and attributions. I bumped into it as I was searching for answers if I could use images from Google into my blog posts. Reading the author's post about how she got into trouble because she has uploaded an image from Google into her blog post. It turned out the person who owned and uploaded the photo into Google wanted a compensation for his photo.

The other day, I saw a news report about a blogger being sued for online libel because of an article he posted about the person suing him. Taking all of these into accord, I couldn't help but feel a bit wary about the things I'm posting online.

Have you ever had any experience getting into trouble because of a post or comment you have posted? What can you say about the laws regarding the online world?

There are some sites where you'll find free images if you want to use them in blog or forum posts. To be safe it's better to, instead of using a search engine to find images for you, to go straight to these sites and try to find the images you seek there.
No but that's probably because my blog didn't get much traffic.
Most copyright laws are violated by people who live in places where those copyright laws don't apply.

The World Intellectual Property Office is clear on its mandate to stop copyright infringement to cover the internet. Although it is a gargantuan task, WIPO is bent on putting some order with regards to the proper use of intellectual property. Those pictures online, particulary in Google Image, can be used provided the user would indicate the credits. And for private webpages like a blog, the user should ask permission to the owner before using the photo. And to be safe, just use your own photo so you will not have a problem with infringement of rights.

As a long time blogger the general rule is: if it's not yours then don't post it especially when it comes to pictures and ESPECIALLY if your blog is really popular because then they'll think you raked in a lot of cash and they'll want bigger compensation. LOL but seriously though. If the owner of the picture/article allowed you to post their content then don't forget to cite your sources/providers properly! It's not only good business but it shows you are responsible, respectable and reputable.
