With all the talk about investments and earning money through the stocks, it got me to thinking about my dream retirement. I would love to have a cabin in Alaska somewhere, how about you?
My dream is to have a house by the beach, it doesn't even need to be in retirement, as soon as possible! I will need to score some sweet deal to achieve that.
I agree with Gelsemium. Alaska would be ok for about two weeks in the summer. The rest of the time is just too cold for me.
I haven't planned where I'd like to spend my retirement but I'm sure I'd love for my days to start by checking my stocks to see how much more money I made the previous day...
To be honest, if I could just keep living the way I am I would be happy. Of course, I look at big houses and big farms with dreams in my eyes, but I'm really happy where I am right now.
My retirement plans are simply to have enough money to always be comfortable financially. I have a friend who's been doing the whole "cabin in Alaska" thing... and I'd pass on that one. While things like them salmon fishing and growing what they eat and seeing moose in the yard may sound nice, they have so much hard work to do. Of course, most cabins, I'd think, would have toilet facilities, but not my friends.... it's an outhouse for them. When it's too icy to get to the post office, they dog sled. I want to have a much more cushy life than that in retirement.
I am hoping to be able to be an expat someday (for those who don't know that means living somewhere other than your home country). I am not too fond of the rat race, and I like the slower paced, "mañana mentality" of the Central American countries. I have been looking at Nicaragua lately -- maybe owning a business there, or maybe making enough here to not have to work down there. Anyone have experience doing something similar?
I think more than places, my retirement would have to be about people I'd want to spend that time with. Surely, a partner and hopefully a few close friends wouldn't be too unrealistic. Failing that, just family somewhere kind of isolated would be good.
Well... it would be a long time before I retire. But I would spend time with my family and visit all around the world. That's always have been my passion.
