Some interesting videos show Russian air power isn't fooling around with Syrian rebels in taking out oil facilities. The US says strikes were "minimally effective," You decide.

I'm sorry but that seems to be pretty passive-aggressive talk from the US there.

The Russians have now bought their strategic bombers into the fight, and are also targeting the lifeline of the ISIS war machine. I know the US Navy are also conducting strikes but by comparison it seems like the Russians are just hitting that little bit harder.

From what I've seen the Russians are having an effect on IS, and I don't see how any one can say that a sustained bombing campaign over a number of weeks would have any other effect.

The US don't want to admit they're making headway, because if the Russians do manage to clear that area, the long term plan is for Assad to be the only ones left, and while that would be ideal for Russia and what their ultimate aim is, for the rest of the world, US included, that might not be an ideal situation either.

The US never wanted to mess with the oil supply. Up to everyone to make their own opinion as to why that is. The Russians are certainly going after the oil supply.. once again everyone can make their own educated guess on why.

I guess that is why the US is trying to downplay the effectiveness of the Russian strikes... it's having an effect that the USA didn't want. That and trying to keep up the whole "We control this thing" talk.

I don't see much progress being made at all. They will eventually overcome and run into all places all over the world.

Of course the US is going to say that airstrikes aren't effective, LOL. They don't want their thunder stolen by the Russians.

Personally I see the value in airstrikes, but seems to me it would be more valuable to challenge the ideas fueling ISIS. But that would mean directly addressing the Religion of Peace, and very few seem willing to do that publicly.

The fact that Russia seems to be making progress makes the shooting of their plane by the Turks even worse. In the UK they will debate whether the UK should join in the air strikes and a select committee report implies it could be effective in helping seizing IS.

Maybe Russian intelligence has information others don't know, but in war there will always be casualties and you take that into account.

ISIS is weaker and if the rumors that Russia might send 4,000 troops into Syria are true than in less than a year, ISIS will have been defeated. But it's not just the Russians who are thinking about sending their soldiers to finish off ISIS, the Germans are thinking of sending 2,000 soldiers into Syria. I hope they do.

As long as the countries cooperate with one another and are united so there is no crossover then it could work. No one wants to say or admit it's like a World War, because society in the Western world should have evolved beyond that, but the reality is, is that it is a world war. IS has been playing countries off against each other, and the Russia/Turkey incident hasn't helped international relations, which is why I consider Turkey's actions to have been ill conceived and executed.
