Today is the 50th anniversary of the fiasco known as the 'Gulf of Tonkin Incident', which started the Vietnam war.

Yet another war started on the back of false allegations. This time it was alleged that the US navy suffered two unprovoked attacks from the N. Vietnamese.

Both these allegations were untrue. There was only one attack and that was in response to U.S aggression within the 12 mile territorial waters off of N.Vietnam. The second attack never even happened and was put, (years later), to a 'mixup' with sonar/radar ghosts.

Rest in peace all those who died because of this 'mixup'

This was a war America should have never entered. North and South Vietnam had a conflict that went on for years. It didn't suddenly appear out of nowhere; just like the infighting going on in Iraq. The problem is most people will never accept this "mix up" and many individuals still view there was more than enough evidence to go to Vietnam. Too many soldiers lost their lives for government interest in this conflict. It's too grotesque for me to vent about because it was like American soldiers were used as pawns or chess pieces for the elite to play with.
