Why on earth did she take stake in the company? She already has billions of dollars. She needs to make more?!

She also gives very large amounts of money to charities around the world. It seems to me that if rich people spend money they are wastrels, if the earn it they are greedy. IMHO so long as they are putting most of their money to good use, why on earth would the not invest to earn more?

Compared to most people on this planet I am rich and have enough money to live comfortably, so why do I invest in stocks? Well, um, because more money is still better?

Oprah does seem to have a magic touch. Does that mean people would start investing in any company she has shares with because it would ultimately mean that company would always do well? Oprah is mighty influential that anything she touches becomes a trusted and investment-worthy brand. Let's just hope no recession or calamity scares would affect prices negatively.

That's the name of the game - investing and making money! She didn't get rich by just earning a paycheck every week and putting it in the bank or under the mattress. You get rich and stay rich by investing wisely.

As long as she's under contract with them, she won't likely be selling stock. And these big investors have to file paperwork each month with the SEC and disclose their buys and sells. When they take big enough positions in companies, they have to fill out paperwork detailing their reasons for buying the stock, roughly how long they plan to hold it, etc.

And remember that the stock was trading for ~ $6 a share when it was ANNOUNCED that she filed ownership papers - she probably paid under $6 for most of her shares. The stock has yet to drop below double digits since then.

i know you are asking JR but i have been playing this ever since Oprah signed on. Have made some good money and opted to hold onto some that i plan on holding until the very end. I don't know how much you know or don't know about Oprah, but i can tell you she has integrity and usually does not get involved with or endorse anything (products or people) that does not have something going on, and she has brought WTW back and has plans for company etc. Although, i am using a stop sell that i have raised a few times now because can never be too sure about anything in the stock market!!

One of many keys for Oprah's success >>"...We are expanding our purpose from focusing on weight loss alone to more broadly helping people lead a healthier, happier life," Jim Chambers, President and CEO of Weight Watchers, said in a statement..." http://www.newsweek.com/oprah-joins-forces-weight-watchers-becoming-board-member-and-advisor-384642

You make some good points and if the company can sell additional services to its already huge customer base this should add to profits from day one.

Upward trend is still intact at the moment:-
